Renowned musician David Sifaayo, affectionately known by his stage name Master Parrot, tragically passed away on Monday, June 1, at the age of 46. The Ugandan dancehall icon was fatally struck by a speeding motorcycle while attempting to cross a highway, as reported by the Daily Monitor. Rising to fame in the mid-2000s and 2010s, Master Parrot was celebrated for hit songs such as “Ekikompola,” “Kikiri Kika,” and “Muliro.” He succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the accident. Emergency personnel and police arrived promptly, and his body was transported to Mulago National Referral Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Investigations into the accident are reportedly ongoing.
Master Parrot began his musical journey with the group Firebase, collaborating with well-known artists like Bobi Wine, Sizzaman, Buchaman, Toolman, and the late Weatherman. He later joined another band, Leone Island, before embarking on a successful solo career in 2008.
In a candid 2018 interview with PML Daily, Master Parrot spoke about his plans for a comeback and his decision to quit drinking. “It’s one of the habits that have been destroying my career, but I am now reborn in all aspects of social living. So, 2018 is different. I am Master Parrot reloaded in style, fashion, and talent,” he shared.
He expressed hope that 2018 would mark a pivotal moment in his career, aiming to reclaim the fame he enjoyed in the early 2000s. He also announced the release of a new album, signaling his dedication to revitalizing his musical legacy.
“2018 has to be the turning point in my career. I want back my lost fame I had back in the early 2000s,” he continued revealing he was releasing a new album.
Tributes flooded in on social media from devastated fans as they learned the tragic news of his death.
“Rest in peace Master parrot those were the musicians abaliko nga ndi mu high school and I know all their music by heart, Kitalo nnyo bambi, may God comfort his family, friends and the entire Music family for losing such talent, Rest in peace Bambi,” on penned.
“Bambi…naye that road the way people drives on that road hooooo may his soul rest in peace, that’s life nobody knows tomorrow,” another added.
A third chimed in: “Look at Bambi, may his soul be RIP.” A fourth shared: “To God we belong and to Him we shall return.”
