Renowned actor Billy Crystal, his wife Janice Crystal, and a group of Hollywood luminaries have come forward with a poignant tribute following the passing of their friends, director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner. They honored Rob Reiner as “a great comic actor” and “a master storyteller.”

This heartfelt statement, shared with the Associated Press on Tuesday, was signed by the Crystals alongside notable figures such as Albert and Kimberly Brooks, Martin Short, Alan and Robin Zweibel, Larry David and Ashley Underwood, Marc Shaiman and Lou Mirabal, Barry and Diana Levinson, and Ambassador James Costos with Michael Smith.

The tribute began with a reflection on the magic of cinema: “Entering a dark theater filled with strangers and sharing the experience—whether it be laughter, tears, fright, or intense drama—remains an unmatched thrill. Audiences constantly ask us to tell them a story.”

“Drawing from the wisdom of his father Carl and his mentor Norman Lear, Rob Reiner transcended his role as a great comic actor to become a master storyteller. No other director matched his versatility, seamlessly transitioning from comedy to drama, and from ‘mockumentary’ to documentary, always captivating audiences who lined up to see his films.”

The statement continued to praise Reiner’s unique talent: “His comedic timing was unparalleled, and his attention to the musicality of dialogue and the finesse of drama was simply exquisite. He cherished actors and elevated writers, granting them the freedom to contribute ideas, fostering a collaborative spirit. Being guided by him was a privilege, and this collaborative ethos is a significant part of his enduring legacy.”

“Rob was also a passionate, brave citizen, who not only cared for this country he loved, he did everything he could to make it better and with his loving wife Michele, he had the perfect partner. Strong and determined, Michele and Rob Reiner devoted a great deal of their lives for the betterment of our fellow citizens… They were a special force together-dynamic, unselfish and inspiring. We were their friends, and we will miss them forever.”

The statement concluded: “There is a line from one of Rob’s favorite films, ‘It’s a Wonderful Life,’ ‘Each man’s life touches so many other lives, and when he isn’t around, he leaves an awful hole, doesn’t he?’ You have no idea.”

Crystal starred in the 1989 film “When Harry Met Sally,” which was directed by Reiner.

As Page Six previously reported, the Hollywood icon and his wife were found stabbed to death in their Brentwood, Calif., home on Dec. 14. Rob was 78 and Michele was 70.

“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner,” the family told Variety in a statement. “We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”

Rob and Michele were found with their throats slit open, sources told The Post.

Their son Nick, 32, was arrested on charges of murder in his parents’ deaths and has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder as of Tuesday afternoon.
