Celine Dion Shares Hopeful Update on Stiff Person Syndrome Battle

Celine Dion has shared an update on her ongoing health battle with Stiff Person Syndrome, following the cancellation of several concerts planned for 2023 and 2024. Known for her hit “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now,” Dion was diagnosed with this uncommon neurological condition in December 2022. The disorder, affecting roughly 1-2 million individuals globally, leads to increasing muscle spasms and painful stiffness.

Despite these challenges, Celine is gearing up to return to the spotlight, as she revealed to Harper’s Bazaar. Emphasizing the progressive nature of her condition, she stated, “It’s a progressive condition. I don’t like to say ‘disease’.” She expressed her readiness and excitement to hit the road again, acknowledging a mix of anticipation and nerves, “I’m feeling good, I’m strong, I’m feeling excited, obviously, and of course a little nervous.”

“I’m doing great, managing my health, feeling good. I’m singing again, even doing a little bit of dancing,” she added.

Celine conveyed heartfelt gratitude, saying, “I have to tell you something very important: Over these last few years, every day that’s gone by, I felt your prayers and support, your kindness and love.”

In her candid chat with Harper’s, Dion also shared that years of being away from her fans deepened her fondness for nature. She revealed, “I love trees so much, and I had this vision of myself trying to disappear through the leaves,” reflecting her introspective journey.

She said the barren trees in autumn felt like a metaphor for her own life.

Now Celine is preparing for her tour, and gave herself a pep talk: “Well girl, if you don’t want to sign autographs and you don’t want to get yourself pretty and you don’t want to be disturbed because your pasta is going to get cold, you can always stay home. But look at what you have.”

To prepare for her 10-date Paris residency later this year, Celine has been undergoing a vigorous exercise routine, consisting of three 90-minute Pilates sessions a week and two ballet classes a week.
