  • Cindy Crawford entertained Howard Stern’s inappropriate questions about Richard Gere’s size with humor.
  • The supermodel shared a dignified explanation of her split from Gere in a 2015 interview.
  • Crawford admitted to molding herself around Gere early in their relationship, but they are now like strangers.

Howard Stern is known for asking the most intimate questions to his guests. Fans even labeled him “disgusting” after a Spice Girls interview that didn’t age well. So in 1998, it was no surprise that he asked Cindy Crawford about her bedroom experience with Richard Gere in terms of size, just three years after their divorce. Recently, footage of the conversation resurfaced on YouTube, and fans slammed the supermodel for entertaining the “nasty” inquiry.

In 2015, Crawford returned to The Howard Stern Show to share a more in-depth explanation about her split from Gere. It was a lot more dignified than her previous chat with the shock jock – who once got booed by a live audience for praising Donald Trump. For the record, the Pepsi icon was also young when she met the Pretty Woman actor. By her second visit to Howard, she was 49 with two teenage children: her doppelgänger Kaia and son, Presley Gerber.

Here’s what Crawford has said about Gere over the years.

A Disappointed Cindy Crawford Told Howard Stern, Richard Gere Is “Not A Big Guy”

Before bringing up the intrusive topic, Stern said he “could see why [Crawford] would marry [Gere], because he’s so damn popular and everything.” Robin Quivers added, “He’s really good-looking,” just as the host quipped, “But he has a small p**is.” The model-turned-entrepreneur wasn’t bothered by the comment. She went along with it, saying: “I just want to know how you know.” Stern immediately explained that he “saw the movie, Breathless,” where the actor’s privates were visible during a shower scene.

“He’s got less than me,” he added. Crawford, who said she’d seen the film, didn’t even know about that part. She then laughed and joked that she “didn’t remember” – adding insult to the injury. Stern responded, “Seriously, weren’t you shocked that he was that small? ‘Cause he’s a big guy.” In an unplanned chorus with Quivers, Crawford said in an unintentional double entendre:

The Super Models star said Gere’s “[her] height… he’s 5’9″, 5’10”. If you ask him, it might be a little taller,” before exposing the American Gigolo alum’s “small” endowment again. “To be honest with you, I hadn’t had that much experience, so I guess it was all relative.” When Stern asked if she’d seen Breathless and was like, “Oh my god,” Crawford answered: “I think by the time I’d seen the movie, I’d seen it [already].”

Of course, the Howard Stern Comes Again author asked if the former House of Style host was “dissatisfied on [her] wedding night.” Crawford sarcastically replied: “Oh yeah, I waited till my wedding even though we went out for four years.”

Stern laughed, saying: “So in other words, it was easy for Richard Gere to go to bed with you; he got you on the first date,” to which his guest said, “No.” But the host added, as if to make the claim less uncomfortable: “No, that’s what I do with my wife – third base. I got my wife third base first.”

In the Apple TV+ docuseries, The Super Models (2023), Crawford admitted that she “molded [herself] around” her first husband. “I think I was 22 when we met,” she recalled. “In the beginning of a relationship, when you’re a young woman, you’re like, ‘You like baseball? I like baseball. Oh, you’re really into Tibetan Buddhism? I might be into that. I’ll try that.'”

“You’re willing to kind of mold yourself around whoever you are in love with.”

The Meaningful Beauty founder added that the actor “was older, so [she] just was, like, in a different circle and not doing some of those same fashion-y things anymore.” She remembered meeting Gere at a “time in [her] career when [she] veered away from the high fashion elite and took more control.

Of course, she dished out on her iconic red Versace dress at the 1991 Oscars with the Runaway Bride actor. “I got invited to go to the Oscars with Richard. I’m like, ‘Well, what do models do well? We wear clothes well. I mean, I better look good,'” she recounted. “That was kind of what my thinking was, like, ‘I’m gonna go to the Oscars, I better be a freakin’ supermodel.'”

In 2016, Crawford said on the WTF with Marc Maron podcast that Gere is now “like a stranger” to her. “We’re friendly, but I think it’s almost like he’s gone back to being, like, ‘Richard Gere’ again, like a stranger, because we don’t really see each other that much,” she elaborated.

On what led to their divorce, the model said it was that “they were a lot of other things,” other than what they initially bonded over. “I think part of the problem in our relationship was that we were a lot of other things, but I don’t know if we were ever friends — like peers, because I was young, and he was Richard Gere,” she reflected.

“And then, as I started kind of growing up and growing into myself — it’s hard to change the nature of a relationship once you’re already in it.”

On May 29, 1998, Crawford married businessman, Rande Gerber. They welcomed their first child, Presley on July 2, 1999, and their youngest, Kaia on September 3, 2001. Gere also got remarried in 2002, to Carey Lowell. They later divorced in 2013.

They share a son together, 24-year-old actor Homer. Gere also became a stepfather to Lowell’s daughter, Hannah. In 2018, Gere married Alejandra Silva with whom he has two kids: Alex, 4, and another 3-year-old son whose name they didn’t share publicly.

When asked if he had any concerns about being an old dad, Richard Gere, 74, said: “Not at all. No.”
