For years, I’ve harbored a curiosity about Tropic Skincare, spurred by Susie Ma’s journey on The Apprentice. Although she didn’t win, her performance was impressive enough to catch Lord Sugar’s eye. He invested significantly in her business, transforming her into a notable entrepreneur. In a remarkable turn of events in April 2023, Susie reclaimed full ownership by buying back the 50% stake from Lord Sugar’s company, Amshold. This move underscores the success of their collaboration. As I revisited the stories of past Apprentice contestants, Susie’s ascent from third place to business triumph captivated me, prompting me to finally explore her brand.
Upon receiving a delightful assortment from Tropic, I was eager to try the various products, among them Body Smooth. This particular item holds historical significance, as it was the product with which Susie, at the tender age of 15, launched her brand at Greenwich Market in 2004. My package predominantly contained bestsellers like Skin Feast, the enchanting Morning Mist, and the Brightening Serum. Although I also acquired their Youth Potion, pregnancy prevents me from using it at the moment, so stay tuned for my thoughts on that!
The realization that Susie crafted Body Smooth at just 15 is astounding. Her entrepreneurial spirit and determination at such a young age are commendable, justifying the investment she received. I’ve been using Body Smooth as my regular body scrub, and my skin has never felt better. My admiration for Tropic’s entire lineup is immense, especially considering Susie didn’t win The Apprentice. Her story is a testament to the idea that not winning doesn’t preclude achieving the ultimate prize.
Lord Sugar’s business acumen is undeniable. Despite firing Susie on the show, his subsequent support for her business proved invaluable. After her appearance in 2011, his £200,000 investment facilitated Tropic’s evolution into a multimillion-pound enterprise. His decision clearly paid off.
From the moment I began using Tropic’s products, I was struck by their professional and spa-like quality. Unlike overly fruity or heavily perfumed alternatives, these products genuinely nurtured my skin. The toning mist, with its incredible scent, offered a light and invigorating refreshment. I tried two serums—the Brightening Serum and the beautiful Rainforest Dew—each contributing to my newfound appreciation for Tropic Skincare.
I’ve been using Tropic for about three weeks now, and I have to say I am fully obsessed with it. Sometimes I find that when you start using a new skincare routine things can really mess with your skin too and my face can sometimes go a little blotchy, this didn’t happen at all with Tropic so I have to say I’m nothing short of impressed. I have no other words to explain it than spa-like, it feels like the products would be more expensive than they are, at the moment they’re very much in line with the current market.
