Eric Clapton was compelled to end his concert prematurely after an unexpected incident during his performance. The 81-year-old rock and blues icon was on stage at Movistar Arena in Spain, delighting fans as part of his European tour, when the unforeseen interruption occurred on Friday night.

Clapton was reportedly gearing up for an encore following his hit song, “Cocaine,” when an object hurled from the audience struck him. The object, a vinyl record still in its packaging, hit the legendary musician squarely in the chest.

Social media has since been abuzz with videos capturing the shocking moment. In the footage, the object can be seen hurtling toward Clapton, making contact and then dropping to the floor. The impact visibly altered his demeanor, as his smile disappeared upon being hit.

Without a word, Clapton abruptly exited the stage, and concert attendees reported that he did not return to complete his performance.

In response, Spanish fans have voiced their disapproval online, expressing their frustration and condemning the individual responsible for cutting short what should have been a memorable finale.

One user wrote: “What a shameless jerk, the one who threw the vinyl.”

One attendee described the evening as “by far the worst” concert they had witnessed, criticising the lack of interaction with the audience.

“No hello, no goodbye, no band intro, no energy, no encore — just boredom with a guitar,” the user complained.

Spanish newspaper El País reported that the person who launched the record had not intended to cause harm, having attached a note of affection to the vinyl.

The identity of the thrower remains unknown.

His European tour continues this weekend, with a performance scheduled at Barcelona’s Palau Sant Jordi on May 10 before dates in Germany the following week.

The Ripley-born guitarist will perform just one UK date as part of his tour, which lands on August 23 at the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, where he’ll be joined by Rolling Stones legend Ronnie Wood.
