The Conjuring franchise made a ton of money and fictionalizes the lives of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, and their daughter Judy Spera has some thoughts about having such a unique family. While Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga play the Warrens in the horror franchise, Mckenna Grace plays young Judy Warren in the 2019 movie Annabelle Comes Home. The Annabelle doll actually exists, which makes the movies seem even scarier.

Lorraine Warren passed away in April 2019 and Ed Warren several years earlier in 2006, and their daughter Judy Spera has given a few interviews about her parents. What is Judy’s real opinion of Ed and Lorraine Warren’s supernatural life?

What Did Judy Speara Say About Her Parents Ed And Lorraine Warren?

There have been allegations against Ed Warren and in 2020, Ed and Lorraine’s daughter Judy Spera was part of a documentary called Devil’s Road: The True Story of Ed and Lorraine Warren. The focus was on her own life, though, and what she thinks about her parents.

It’s hard to know how it would really feel to be a young child realizing that their parents checked out ghosts in people’s houses for a living… and it would definitely be pretty terrifying at times. From what is shown in The Conjuring movies, the Warrens believed that there are evil ghosts that other people might not be aware of, and each film has more than a few scary moments.

Judy Spera talked about her parents in an interview with Den Of Geek and explained that she actually stayed with her grandparents a lot of the time as Ed and Lorraine Warren would go all over in order to help people and do their jobs.

Spera said that she was fine with what her mom and dad devoted their lives to. She explained that they had creative careers as well, and it wasn’t all about hunting ghosts in people’s houses. This is interesting and might not be something that people know about the Warrens since based on what is shown in The Conjuring movies, they seem to be all about the paranormal.

Spera told Den Of Geek, “I never wanted them to stop. And when I was quite small, they were artists and that’s what they did. They traveled and sold their paintings, and they did art classes. It wasn’t until I was getting older when this ghost thing happened. As a little child, I didn’t know they were doing that. I knew they were always interested.”

Spera also said that it was enjoyable being Ed and Lorraine Warren’s daughter because of the way that they went all out on October 31st. She said in her interview with Den Of Geek, “My father always talked about ghost stories in my family, so we had fantastic Halloween parties, and my father would make these witches and things, and paint them. It was fun. And we spent a lot of time walking around in cemeteries, which I still enjoy doing.”

Judy Spera admitted that as a kid, she was “afraid” of the supernatural things that her parents dealt with and that she knew that they were right. She told Den Of Geek, “As I got older, I could see proof of it or proof enough for me.”

Judy Spera Told Husband Tony Spera All About Ed And Lorraine Warren

Judy Spera spoke about her marriage to Tony Spera in an interview with USA Today in June 2019. She explained that while it was always hard for her to tell others about her parents, which makes sense since it’s not an ordinary thing to talk about, she knew that Tony would understand.

The couple attended a University of Connecticut talk that Ed and Lorraine Warren gave and Tony asked “Your parents are college professors?” Tony explained, “She said, ‘No they are ghost hunters.”

Judy Spera said, “It was not something I shared with people, but I felt I could tell Tony.”

While Judy explained in her interview with Den Of Geek that Ed and Lorraine Warren didn’t tell her that she should do the same job as them when she got older, her husband has gotten involved with their careers.

Fans can visit Tonyspera.com and learn about the New England Society of Psychic Research, which Tony runs after the deaths of Ed and Lorraine Warren. The Warren family also had a museum that has now been shut down.

The website offers up advice and information for people who want to look into the supernatural themselves or who want a like-minded community. Tony also does speaking engagements and runs events. In October 2023, Tony will be put on an Uncasville, Connecticut event called The Warren’s Supernatural Phantasma-Con which will be at the Mohegan Sun Earth Convention Center.

On Tonyspera.com, Tony shared the story of the first time that he saw Judy Warren. He was a police officer at the time and she walked by his car. A friend of his knew her and set up a date, which took place at a restaurant called Jim Dandy’s Fried Chicken. He wrote “I was in love!” and “That evening I asked her out on a date for the following night. She said yes. And now, 40 years hence, she is somehow still saying ‘yes.'”

How Judy Spera Feels About Annabelle Comes Home?

In Annabelle Comes Home, Judy Spera was interviewed as part of a feature that was included called Growing Up Woman. She said, “When I was a little kid, I was not aware of what my parents did for a living.” She shared that Ed Warren would research the paranormal and “people kept giving my father all these haunted objects.”

Judy Spera explained that Ed let her know that she needed to leave the cabinet alone where he kept these objects, and she was happy to steer clear as she found it really terrifying.

Gary Dauberman, who wrote and directed Annabelle Comes Home, told Entertainment Weekly in 2019 that Ed and Lorraine’s daughter was great about the horror franchise and willing to talk whenever.

Dauberman said, “Judy and Tony Spera (her husband) have been very helpful since the early days [of the Conjuring franchise]. We called them, and had a fun conversation about what we were planning to do with this, and drew on some of the elements of Judy’s own childhood, and how she viewed her parents and what they did for a living. It just adds to the riches of the character’s story.”
