Harry Styles has been the subject of multiple controversies over the past two years.
Then there’s his scandalous romance with Olivia Wilde whom he started dating on the drama-plagued set of Don’t Worry Darling. But it seemed like the couple called it quits as soon as the movie premiered in September 2022.
In December that year, a source claimed that the House alum was “pretty hurt” over the split. Some fans thought Wilde was more affected by the bullying from the pop star’s followers.
Someone even wrote on Reddit: “I would be extremely jaded if I were her. He didn’t even defend her or publicly claim her, that must hurt a lot.” Well, Styles has clearly moved on since.
Months ago, he was spotted kissing Emily Ratajkowski. But has he kept in touch with Wilde since their split? Here’s what we know.
What Was The Drama On Set Of Don’t Worry Darling?
It all started with Styles replacing Shia LaBeouf. “His process was not conducive to the ethos that I demand in my productions,” Wilde said of her decision to fire the latter. “He has a process that, in some ways, seems to require a combative energy, and I don’t personally believe that is conducive to the best performances.
The director added: “I believe that creating a safe, trusting environment is the best way to get people to do their best work. Ultimately, my responsibility is to the production and to the cast to protect them. That was my job.” Soon, she was rumored to be dating the new lead actor, just as LaBeouf clarified that he quit due to lack of rehearsal time.
Lead actress Florence Pugh also didn’t promote the movie at first. A source later said that there was “friction” between her and Wilde. “It’s pretty clear [Florence is] choosing not to be a part of the PR,” the insider told Rolling Stone back then. “It’s clearly not beneficial to Olivia to not have her be a part of the PR. It has to be a Florence decision.”
It all exploded when Styles appeared to have spat on Chris Pine at the Venice Film Festival. The viral clip sparked more speculations, which Wilde later clarified as “clickbait” on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert. “He did not, but I think it’s a perfect example of people will look for drama anywhere they can. Harry did not spit on Chris, in fact,” she said.

Why Did Harry Styles & Olivia Wilde Break Up?
In November 2022, a source told People that the two were “taking a break” as the As It Was singer was “still touring and is now going abroad” while the filmmaker was “focusing on her kids and her work in L.A.” They noted that it was, “a very amicable decision.”
Someone close to the couple previously said that, “The public pressure on them has been difficult. They’ve had ups and downs throughout the relationship.” The Babylon star once addressed that ahead of the movie’s premiere. “I think once you crack open the window, you can’t then be mad when mosquitos come in,” she said of keeping their relationship private.
Styles also echoed her sentiments in August that year. “I’ve never talked about my life away from work publicly and found that it’s benefited me positively,” he told Rolling Stone. “There’s always going to be a version of a narrative, and I think I just decided I wasn’t going to spend the time trying to correct it or redirect it in some way.”
Back then, fans cited how the One Direction alum also didn’t defend his ex, Taylor Swift when his fans were harassing her. “Have you seen that video where he’s with Taylor Swift and his fans are basically pushing her out of the way,” wrote a Redditor. “He didn’t say anything to defend her while she graciously got out of their way.”
Are Harry Styles & Olivia Wilde Still Friends?
In the statement released to People, the source said that Wilde and Styles were “still very close friends,” but that “Right now, they have different priorities that are keeping them apart.”
But in March 2023, an insider reported to Us Weekly that the former was “upset” about the Watermelon Sugar hitmaker dating Ratajkowski.
The source said that the In Time star was “trying not to be jealous because she is moving on as well,” but seeing the viral pictures and videos of the rumored couple “upsets” her.
A source for Page Six later added that Wilde thought “This is a betrayal,” and that the Gone Girl actress was “begging her for forgiveness.”
They said Wilde “is staying far away from this and taking the high road” and that “she is focused on her kids and her work. She wants nothing to do with this mess.”
