Katie Price insists ‘I do pay tax’ after being declared bankrupt over £750,000 bill

Katie Price has insisted that she does pay tax after being declared bankrupt for a second time by a judge last week. The London court heard that the glamour model, 45, failed to respond to HMRC over an unpaid bill of £761,994.05. Katie was previously declared bankrupt in 2019.

Appearing on the Straight to the Comments! podcast, the mum-of-five explained that she did not attend the hearing because she has been “dealing with serious stuff”.

She told hosts Lisa and Sarah: “I’ve actually been signed off because I’m dealing with serious stuff. Not against my work, but there’s stuff that’s serious going on. I just can’t cope with going to a court, mentally I can’t do it…

“I’m not ashamed, everyone’s in a bankruptcy thing. No one actually knows the ins and outs of everything, and trust me, I don’t get away with stuff either. Tax you can’t ever run away from, you have to pay. Don’t think I sit and don’t pay stuff, because I do. You can’t get away from it.

“My house is safe and all of this, but people don’t understand what the bankruptcy’s all about, and that itself is mentally draining.”

Katie, who checked into the Priory in 2020, now sees a therapist to help her “cope”.

She concluded: “When you’re ill and depressed, everything accumulates. So, communication is key with everything. If you can’t cope with something or you haven’t paid that bill or this bill; communicate. Don’t ignore because when you ignore it gets worse. That’s what happened basically.”

Katie’s court case came just days after she was fined £880 for driving without a licence or insurance in August last year.

Judge Sebastian Prentis told London’s Rolls Building: “There has been no response from the debtor. The papers are in order. There is a substantial debt due from Ms Price to HMRC, and therefore I will make a bankruptcy order.”

He said the bill “derives from self-assessments from the year 2020-2021 and from the year 2021-22” and includes income tax, VAT, surcharges and interest.

A different High Court judge ordered her in February to pay 40 percent of her income from adult entertainment website OnlyFans to trustees for the next three years in a separate dispute over unpaid debts.

The hearing was told that she was due to face questions about her finances in April.
