Sales executive Luke is among the 16 singletons hoping to find love in the new series of Married At First Sight UK.

The Essex lad, 30, described his dating life before the show as a “mess” and had grown sick of dating apps and rejection.

Speaking to Express.co.uk and other press, Luke revealed that his former partner of eight years was not best pleased when he announced he would be taking part in the Channel 4 show.

She was apparently so disgruntled that she threatened to gatecrash the wedding in a bid to stop the ceremony from taking place.

Luke claimed: “I’m still close to her family so I told them [I was doing the show] and then I saw her out in the pub three days later.

“She was telling me she was going to find out where the wedding was, turn up and try and stop it. I didn’t even tell [Channel 4] about that.

“She didn’t, thankfully. Obviously, the venue was secret so there was no way, I didn’t even know where the venue was until a couple of days before.

“She wasn’t happy. We were together for eight years then she left me. She regrets it, but unfortunately, you only get one chance with me.”

Reflecting on his MAFS experience, Luke said he would describe it as “powerful”.

He recalled: “From the second you get to that aisle, even the build-up, you’re not the same person as you were before.

“It is tough, don’t get me wrong, and there are times where you just want to go home, but there are also times which are some of the best times of your life.”

This series of MAFS UK will be the longest yet with 36 episodes.

It will see the couples make a lifelong commitment to one another at a ceremony overseen by a wedding celebrant in front of their loved ones.

After the celebrations are over, the couples are put to the test as they go on a luxurious honeymoon before moving in with each other and their fellow couples.

Relationships will be put under the microscope by the experts – Mel Schilling, Paul C. Brunson and Charlene Douglas – at recurring commitment ceremonies where couples choose whether they want to stay in or leave the process.

The new series of Married At First Sight UK will begin on Monday, September 18, at 9pm on E4.
