Millie Bobby Brown recently disclosed a key “life skill” she regrets not having developed, due to spending her childhood immersed in the production of “Stranger Things.”
The 22-year-old actress reflected on Monday’s “Happy, Sad, Confused” podcast, saying, “I skipped public school, which has probably impacted my social skills to some extent.”
Brown elaborated on how missing social interactions with peers has influenced her, mentioning, “Sometimes when fans approach me, they’ll shout ‘Millie!’ and I’m taken aback. It’s not that I’m unapproachable; it’s just that interacting with people my own age is sometimes challenging for me.”
“My upbringing largely involved working with male crews over the age of 40,” Brown elaborated. “This exposed me to more adult conversations, and I missed out on discussions that are typical among young peers.”
She humorously added, “Conversations often revolved around work, like, ‘Where’s the grip? Let’s grab a ladder,’ and that dominated a lot of what I heard growing up.”
“So I could talk to that person extensively for hours about different lens changes and shots, but I can’t talk to you about, ‘Oh my god, what bars do you like around this area?!’ I’m like, ‘I don’t know.’ So I do lack a little bit of that.”
Brown, however, labeled her husband, Jake Bongiovi, as “the most social butterfly” and the “complete opposite” of her.
“He went to boarding school and college, so he is like a social butterfly,” she continued. “When I met him, I really tried to lean in more to that. So I’m in my social era.”
The “Enola Holmes” star also shared that she deleted her social media accounts from her phone in 2021 and has a manager post for her.
“I couldn’t do it anymore,” Brown said. “So I needed to hire someone, for my mental health, to take care of it for me.”
The “Damsel” star reassured listeners that she still does her own captions, explaining, “I still want to feel connected to my fans … I don’t want to see what people have to say about it because I don’t care.”
Brown portrayed Eleven, also known as Jane Hopper, in all five seasons of “Stranger Things” from 2016 to 2025.
Elsewhere in the podcast, Brown admitted that she fell into “a slight depression” when filming wrapped.
“It was very hard for me,” she confessed. “I would not have expected that coming off of the show. I’m a very happy-go-lucky person.”
Brown and Bongiovi have been married since May 2024 and announced that they adopted a daughter last August in a joint statement shared via Instagram. The two have made sure to keep their baby out of the spotlight and have yet to share her name publicly.
