As Melissa Gilbert matured into adulthood on “Little House on the Prairie,” she began to compare herself to her co-star Alison Arngrim, who played Nellie Oleson on the long-running series. “There was a huge difference,” Gilbert told ABC News in 2015. “I was wearing, like, you know, Speedo one-piece bathing suits. She was wearing all these sort of sexy bikinis and stuff.”

At 17, Gilbert starred in the TV remake of “Splendor in the Grass,” and her wardrobe was a far cry from what she wore on “Prairie.” As she shared on her blog, “[T]hose in charge, put me in a girdle, a corset, a padded bra and even painted cleavage on me!” Looking back on this shift, she told Megyn Kelly on “Today.” “They were trying to make me appear like what the image of the glamorous leading lady ingénue was at that time.” After the birth of her first son, Gilbert’s then-husband made some harsh comments about her breasts. After she divorced him and started dating, she had multiple breast implant surgeries and a nose job.

In 2015, Gilbert had her implants removed, and she couldn’t be happier she did. “Not only do I feel healthier and better, but I don’t have these inappropriately large breasts that were wrong for my body, kind of getting in the way,” she shared with ABC News. And current husband Timothy Busfield was on board with her decision.
