The creators of Amazon Prime Video’s Off Campus have issued a plea to fans to cease the “targeted harassment” directed at the cast in the wake of Mika Abdalla’s recent breakup with her fiancé, Jake Short.
“The Off Campus community thrives on a mutual appreciation for storytelling and respect for the real individuals who bring it to life,” the show’s official X account posted on Thursday, June 11. “We urge everyone in this space to extend that respect to our cast and their personal lives. Any accounts engaging in targeted harassment will be blocked from following us.”
This announcement follows an exclusive report by Us Weekly that revealed Off Campus star Abdalla, aged 26, had called off her engagement with Short, aged 29, after a five-year relationship.
“Given the recent attention on Mika’s personal affairs, we feel it’s necessary to confirm that she and Jake have parted ways,” Abdalla’s representative informed Us on June 1. “They continue to support each other and maintain a cordial relationship, and they politely request privacy and respect during this time.”

Following news of the split, a 2024 clip of Abdalla and Short on the latter’s “The Sit and Chat” podcast resurfaced online. Fans believed that Short disparaged Abdalla in the footage.
“We’ve seen a conversation around clips of us together when we were in a relationship, and people making harmful and inaccurate assumptions about our dynamic,” the exes told Us in a joint statement after the podcast clip went viral. “We were in a loving, respectful relationship for five years [and] it’s hurtful to see playful moments dissected in a way that does not reflect the respect and love we had and still have for each other.”
Short further addressed his comments about Abdalla in a statement via his Instagram Stories.
“I made a disrespectful, juvenile joke in a clip that recirculated this week,” the Disney Channel alum wrote. “It’s imperative to me that I take accountability, as I am aware that it was inappropriate.”

“I continue to learn from this situation and work to show people the respect they deserve,” he concluded.
Abdalla, who met Short on the set of 2021’s Sex Appeal, starred as Allie Hayes on Off Campus season 1. She is set to co-lead the upcoming season 2, which is currently in production, opposite Stephen Kalyn’s Dean Heyward-Di Laurentis.
“Even though we do tease Dean and Allie a lot earlier than people expect, you are still left wanting a lot more,” Abdalla exclusively told Us last month of what awaits the pair onscreen in season 2. “And that’s something I’m really excited about. You just want to see more.”
