During the early-2000s, there were very few bands that were more popular than My Chemical Romance. The reason for that is simple, millions of people felt an extremely deep connection to the band’s music and lyrics.

In recent years, My Chemical Romance has come back into prominence as the band reunited more than five years after they initially went their separate ways. On top of that, it has been revealed that several of today’s big stars consider themselves to be big My Chemical Romance fans.

Now that My Chemical Romance is back together and releasing new music, many of their fans are going back to revisit the band’s legacy. As a result, many My Chemical Romance fans will be enjoying the band’s many impressive music videos for the first time in years.

Looking back on My Chemical Romance’s legacy of incredible music videos, some of them stand out. Unfortunately for the band, however, one of their most successful music videos must bring up a lot of traumatic memories for them because filming it was incredibly disastrous.

Why The Music Video For “Famous Last Words” Is One Of My Chemical Romance’s Most Successful

In 2006, My Chemical Romance arguably reached the height of their career when they released their third album, “The Black Parade”. A huge hit for the band, Wikipedia claims the album went 3x Platinum in America and the U.K. and it went platinum in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and Japan.

According to Billboard, “Welcome to the Black Parade”, “Helena (So Long & Goodnight)”, and “Under Pressure” are My Chemical Romance’s highest charting singles. Not far behind that, Billboard says that “Famous Last Words” is one of the band’s biggest hits.

On top of selling a lot of singles, “Famous Last Words” was a huge hit for My Chemical Romance in another way. After the music video for “Famous Last Words” was released, people watched it a staggering amount of times.

As of the time of this writing, the music video for “Famous Last Words” has been viewed more than 138 million times on YouTube alone. On top of that, lots of people saw the music video on TV and that is to say nothing about the other places the music video can be viewed.

On top of succeeding in terms of views, there are other ways that “Famous Last Words” has succeeded. A perfect example of that is Kerrang ranked it among My Chemical Romance’s top 10 music videos.

Why Filming The Music Video For “Famous Last Words” Was A Disaster

When people show up to their workplace, one of the last things they should have to think about is their safety. The reason for that is the people in charge of workplaces need to do everything they can to keep everybody who is present safe.

Despite that, throughout Hollywood and television history, there have been far too many examples of people being injured onset.

When the members of My Chemical Romance came together to film the music video for “Famous Last Words”, they should have been able to rest assured that none of them would be harmed. Sadly, however, that didn’t turn out to be the case for several of them. In fact, several members of My Chemical Romance suffered extremely serious injuries while filming the music video.

When it comes to the injuries that were said to have taken place on the set of “Famous Last Words”, the ones that Ray Toro and Bob Bryar appear to have suffered are talked about the least. In fact, those injuries are ignored in most articles about what happened on the set of the music video.

According to Wikipedia, Toro fractured his fingers and Bryar got blisters around his hand due to the music video taking so long to shoot. Of course, Wikipedia can be an unreliable source but there is no reason to think those injuries didn’t take place.

On the other hand, the two most serious injuries that took place on the set of “Famous Last Words” have been confirmed by several reports.

First off, My Chemical Romance’s lead singer Gerard Way wound up spending several days in the hospital due to injuries he suffered to his leg and foot.

While shooting the music video, one scene called for Way to be tackled by his bandmate Frank Iero. In theory, that shouldn’t have been a big deal but something went severely wrong as Way tore “multiple ligaments in his ankle”.

Most of the time when music videos are filmed, the worst-case scenario would be if one of the stars wound up in a hospital for days. In the case of “Famous Last Words”, however, that sadly wasn’t the case.

The reason for that is the band’s drummer Bob Bryar actually suffered an injury that was much more serious and perilous for his life and career.

When Bryar got behind his drum kit to film his part of “Famous Last Words”, he had no idea he was in harm’s way. The reason for that is the drum kit was placed too close to where flames were going to be set off.

When the flames were unleashed, Bryar suffered second and third-degree burns on the back of his legs. If most people were burned like that, they would rush to a hospital for treatment. Surprisingly enough, however, Bryar opted to put that on hold until he could finish filming his part of the music video.

Ultimately, they may have been a big mistake. The reason for that is that Bryar’s recovery went horribly as he eventually developed gangrene. Of course, Bryar could have got gangrene no matter what but it clearly would have been a good idea for the drummer to receive treatment for his injuries as soon as possible.

Thankfully for Bryar, he was able to recover and he continued to play with My Chemical Romance for years after the incident. That said, it is easy to imagine how scary it would be for a drummer who loves to perform to develop gangrene in part of their leg.
