Selena Gomez appears to be trying to mend her friendship with Francia Raisa, who she had a public falling out with after Francia donated her kidney to Selena.
In honor of Francia’s 35th birthday, Selena made a touching tribute to social media. “Happiest of birthdays to this special human beings [sic]. No matter where life takes us, I love you. @franciaraisa,” she wrote. Selena included a series of photos of her and Francia throughout the years.
Francia Didn’t Post About Selena During Her Recent Birthday
While Selena’s post seems to suggest things are better between the long-time friends, Francia’s silence speaks volumes. The actress hasn’t commented on Selena’s post, nor is it clear if the actresses have seen each other in person recently.
But even more, Francia didn’t have anything to say when Selena recently celebrated her 31st birthday. It also appears Francia didn’t show up for Selena’s star-studded party, which included famous faces like Paris Hilton, Christina Aguilera, Tyga, and Karol G.
Why Francia & Selena Started Feuding After She Donated A Kidney
For a time, Selena and Francia seemed like they had an unbreakable friendship. They originally met in childhood while working in the entertainment industry, and their friendship has almost spanned three decades.
Selena and Francia have been vocal about how they’ve helped each other through difficult times. Selena once let Francia move in with her temporarily while between projects, while Francia supported Selena through her health problems. Perhaps the pinnacle of their friendship was when Francia volunteered to donate her kidney, after Selena required a transplant due to Lupus.
Though Selena was vocally appreciative of Francia’s sacrifice after the transplant, their friendship seemed to hit a rough patch within a few years. Selena received backlash in 2022 when she failed to mention Francia in her documentary My Mind & Me, which detailed her health struggles through the year.

The same year, while giving an interview to Rolling Stone, Selena again seemed to hint at a feud, when she referred to Taylor Swift as her only “industry friend.” Shortly after, Francia unfollowed her on Instagram.
Though the women have seemed to indirectly reference their feud multiple times since then, neither Selena nor Francia has directly commented on the rumored falling out, including what spurred the discord.
Various reports said that Francia disagreed with Selena’s lifestyle choices after the transplant, particularly that Selena allegedly wouldn’t give up drinking, despite medical advice to do so.
In fact, Francia’s father, Renán Almendárez Coello, seemingly confirmed this is the reason for their falling out, “There’s a difference when Selena is drinking,” he told Page Six. “Francia told Selena that she didn’t give her the kidney so she could go out and drink.”
“Be careful. Be really careful,” he said, speaking directly to Selena. Page Six reached out to Selena’s team for comment, but they received not reply back.
Although Selena may be trying to get their friendship back on track, as evidenced by her birthday tribute, Francia’s lack of response (so far) doesn’t make things look good.
