Throughout his run both in and out of politics, Donald Trump has seen several relationships break. He seemed to be on amicable terms with Oprah, who even wrote Donald a personal letter. However, years later it seems as though that same relationship was completely broken.
As for Trump’s relationship with Tiger, it is an interesting one given Tiger’s hesitation to speak ill about Trump to the media. Donald has praised the athlete time and time again.
We’ll take a look at Tiger’s side of it, and what he had to say about his relationship with Trump. We’ll also take a closer look at a question Tiger refused to answer, which in Trump’s eyes, showed how close the two are.
Tiger Woods Was Honored By Donald Trump With The Presidential Medal Of Freedom
It was a unique experience for Tiger Woods back in 2019, as he took to the White House, accepting the Presidential Medal of Freedom. The honor also included a 15-minute speech prior from former President Donald Trump. During his speech, Trump praised Tiger for his established career.
Woods was humbled by the ceremony. He said, “This has been an unbelievable experience.”
“It’s an incredible privilege to be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom,” Woods then tweeted. “Considering the recipients, history, and what this means to me and my family, it’s also very humbling. Thank you all for your support and I hope this inspires others to never give up on their dreams.”
It was a big moment for Tiger, as Trump went on to discuss how he couldn’t wait to see what was next for the golfer. As expected, the relationship did cause a stir in the media, and Tiger was asked about his relationship with the former President.
Tiger was open that he had known Trump for quite some time, however, there was one question he wasn’t willing to answer and according to Trump, this showed their close connection.
Tiger Woods Was Asked About His Connection To Donald Trump, But Avoided A Particular Question
Following the final round of the Northern Trust tournament, Woods was asked about Trump. Tiger did reveal that he knew the former President for quite some time, and golfed with him in the past.
“Well, I’ve known Donald for a number of years,” Woods said. “We’ve played golf together. We’ve had dinner together. I’ve known him pre-presidency and obviously during his presidency.”
Woods was then asked about Donald’s controversial takes regarding immigrants. Tiger simply answered by saying he’d respect whoever was in charge of the country.
“He’s the President of the United States,” Woods replied. “You have to respect the office. No matter who is in the office, you may like, dislike personality or the politics, but we all must respect the office.”
Woods was then questioned if he wanted to add on to the race relations in the country, to which he decided not to get into such a topic.

“No. I just finished 72 holes and am really hungry.”
Woods continued on by answering Ryder Cup questions. According to Trump, this showed their connection, and how Woods wouldn’t get manipulated by the media.
Trump tweeted, “The Fake News Media worked hard to get Tiger Woods to say something that he didn’t want to say,” Trump wrote. “Tiger wouldn’t play the game – he is very smart. More importantly, he is playing great golf again!”
Wisely, Tiger avoided the subject in recent years.
Donald Trump hasn’t been kind to all athletes, that includes the likes of LeBron James. Donald once tweeted out,
“Lebron James was just interviewed by the dumbest man on television, Don Lemon. He made Lebron look smart, which isn’t easy to do. I like Mike!”
As far as Tiger is concerned, Donald’s support has been constant. He even sent Tiger a special message in 2021 during his health issues.
“He’s going to be back,” Trump said. “I have no doubt about it, he’s going to be back. As a golfer he’s just incredible,” Trump said. “He’s an incredible guy.”
Trump continues on by saying that world of sports is a better place when Tiger’s involved.
“All I’d say to him is get better and get out there because we all miss him. We need Tiger,” Trump responded before alluding to one of his favorite subjects. “When Tiger is in contention, which is often, the ratings are double and triple. It’s very few people that can cause that kind of phenomena.”
Clearly, the support from Donald’s end has always been there.
