Mad About You was a very popular television sitcom in the ’90s. Paul Reiser not only co-created the series, but helped compose the theme song. He starred in the show alongside Helen Hunt, who played his wife. The series revolved around a married couple who lived in Manhattan. The show ran for eight seasons, including a 12-episode limited revival in 2019.

The show won several awards during its initial run, including four Golden Globe Awards and twelve Primetime Emmy Awards. Many have often wondered what the cast of the show has done since it ended. Some have continued acting, and there is at least one who changed careers completely.

Here’s what the Mad About You cast has been up to since the series ended.

8/8 Paul Reiser

Paul Reiser played the role of Paul Buchman on the show. He would go on to be nominated for an Emmy, a Golden Globe, an American Comedy Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award. Reiser returned to the series in 2019 for its 12-episode revival. After the series ended, Reiser continued to work in television, including guest-starring as himself on Curb Your Enthusiasm. He also stretched his musical muscles on a collaborative album with singer Julia Fordham titled, “Unusual Suspects.” Reiser created and starred in the short-lived comedy series The Paul Reiser Show. He recently made appearances in shows like The Boys and Stranger Things.

7/8 Helen Hunt

Helen Hunt played Jamie Buchman in the series. She received three Golden Globe Awards for Best Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy and four Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her work on the show. Hunt also returned for the show’s revival. Hunt won an Academy Award in 1998 for Best Actress for the film As Good as It Gets. After the series ended, Hunt starred in the films Cast Away, What Woman Want, and Pay It Forward. Hunt directed the films There She Found Me and Ride. She also directed episodes of House of Lies, This Is Us, Feud: Bette and Joan, American Housewife, and the Mad About You revival.

6/8 Leila Kenzie

Leila Kenzie played the role of Fran Devanow on Mad About You. Before relocating to Los Angeles, she worked as a hotel telephone operator. Kenzie got her big break when she appeared in the off-Broadway production of Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding. She later appeared in television shows such as The Golden Girls, Diagnosis Murder, Thirtysomething and The Cosby Show. Kenzie also appeared in films such as Other People’s Money, White Oleander, and The Hot Chick. Since Mad About You ended, she has earned her master’s degree in clinical psychology. Kenzie now works as a marriage and family therapist in Los Angeles.

5/8 John Pankow

John Pankow played the role of Ira Buchman on the show. He received four Screen Actors Guild Award nominations for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series for his performance. Prior to the series, Pankow did work as a stage actor, beginning in off-Broadway productions. After moving to Broadway, he had minor film roles in The Hunger and Rambo: First Blood Part II. His first starring role came in the film To Live and Die in L.A. After Mad About You, Pankow was a series regular in the series Episodes. He also appeared in the 2020 film Before/During/After.

4/8 Anne Ramsay

Anne Ramsay played the role of Lisa Stemple on Mad About You. Her performance earned her a shared Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for Best Ensemble in a Comedy series. Ramsay reprised her role for the 2019 revival. Since the show ended, Ramsay has appeared in films such as Woman on Top, Planet of the Apes, Heart of the Beholder, The Human Contract, Wild About Harry, Bombshell, and Violet. She has also appeared in television shows like CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, The L Word, Six Feet Under, Dexter, Wizards of Waverly Place, Drop Dead Diva, Animal Kingdom, and Ordinary Joe.

3/8 Richard Kind

Richard Kind played the role of Dr. Mark Devanow in the show. During his time on Mad About You, Kind joined the cast of Spin City. This caused his appearances on Mad About You to become less frequent. Kind later came back for the 2019 revival. He appeared in eight episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm and in a recurring role on Scrubs. He later appeared in the drama Psych and Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Kind has also appeared in films such as The Visitor, The Understudy, and A Serious Man. He also appeared in his friend George Clooney’s directorial debut Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. In October 2022, Kind was inducted into the Pennsbury High School Hall of Fame in the inaugural class.

2/8 Lisa Kudrow

Lisa Kudrow played the character of Ursula Buffay on the show. This was Kudrow’s first recurring television role and would later lead her to Friends. On Friends, Kudrow played Ursula’s twin sister Phoebe Buffay. Kudrow was the first of the Friends cast to win the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 1998. Kudrow appeared in films such as Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion, Hanging Up, Dr. Dolittle 2, Analyze This, and its sequel Analyze That. After Friends, Kudrow appeared in comedies such as Happy Endings, Easy A, and Booksmart, as well as starring in the series The Comeback. She is currently a co-executive producer of 25 Words or Less, a syndicated game show.

1/8 Cynthia Harris

Cynthia Harris played Sylvia Buchman on Mad About You. She starred in the original series for five seasons and the 2019 revival. Prior to appearing on Mad About You, Harris appeared in television shows such as Archie Bunker’s Place and All My Children. Harris also starred in the seven-part British television series Edward and Mrs. Simpson, where she played the Duchess of Windsor. This earned her a BAFTA Award nomination in 1979. Harris co-founded The Actors Company Theatre, an Off-Broadway company where she also served as co-artistic director. She appeared in several plays, including the 2013 Primary Stages production of The Tribute Artist.
