Charlaine F. Olmedo serves as a Judge at the Superior Court of California, Los Angeles County, where she handles complex criminal, high-security, and long-duration cases. Her appointment to the judiciary came in 2002, courtesy of then-California Governor Gray Davis, a member of the Democratic Party.
Judge Olmedo’s academic journey began at Beverly Hills High School in Beverly Hills, CA. She completed her undergraduate studies in Political Science at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1986, and went on to earn her Juris Doctor degree from Loyola University School of Law in 1989. That same year, she was admitted to the California Bar.
In 1989, Olmedo embarked on her legal career as a deputy district attorney within the Hardcore Gang Unit of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office. Five years later, she transitioned to a role as a prosecutor for the U.S. Justice Department.
Before her judicial appointment in 2002, Olmedo was an assistant U.S. Attorney at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles. Her work there involved significant contributions to the Organized Crime Strike Force.
