P Diddy has filed a lawsuit against Diageo Spirits company for focusing too much on George Clooney’s tequila over his own.

Here is everything you need to know.

P Diddy is accusing Diageo of racism in a US lawsuit

P Diddy, whose real name is Sean Combs, is suing Diageo for allegedly neglecting his tequila brand DeLeon.

Moreover, he claimed that the company is showering too much attention on two other tequila products including George Clooney’s Casamigos.

In addition, he filed a lawsuit on 31st May Wednesday through his Combs Wines and Spirits company with the New York State Supreme Court in Manhattan.

In the lawsuit, P Diddy said that the tequila giant ‘effectively abandoned’ his brand after they got multiple high-profile brands.

It seems like the rapper is referring to the ‘whopping $1 billion’ deal’ Diageo signed with ‘competing tequila brand’ Casamigos, co-owned by George Clooney in 2017.

The complaint reads, ‘Following its acquisition of these competing brands, Diageo effectively abandoned DeLeon.’

Subsequently, they have accused the company of ‘racial typecasting.’

The filing says, ‘Rather than equal treatment, Diageo has treated Mr. Combs and his brands worse than others because he is Black.’

They continued, ‘Diageo has typecasted Ciroc and DeLeon, apparently deciding they are ‘Black brands’ that should be targeted only to ‘urban consumers.”‘

Subsequently, the lawsuit mentions, ‘Cloaking itself in the language of diversity and equality is good for Diageo’s business, but it is a lie.’

It adds, ‘While Diageo may conspicuously include images of its Black partners in advertising materials and press releases, its words only provide the illusion of inclusion.’

Diageo is denying P Diddy’s racism allegations

Diageo released a statement to deny the allegations P Diddy had claimed when he accused the company of racism.

They stated, ‘This is a business dispute, and we are saddened that Mr. Combs has chosen to recast this matter as anything other than that.’

They went on to point out, ‘While we respect Mr. Combs as an artist and entrepreneur, his allegations lack merit, and we are confident the facts will show that he has been treated fairly.’

Besides that, P Diddy revealed that he is seeking to get billions of dollars in damages in other legal proceedings against the company.

Meanwhile, the rapper’s relationship with Diageo, which owns over 200 labels including   Guinness beer and Tanqueray gin, dates back to 2007. The London-based company approached P Diddy in order to speak about Ciroc.
