A Florida attorney found himself on the other side of the justice system when he was charged with allegedly stalking another attorney.
Carlos Santi, 43, stood handcuffed before Judge Mindy Glazer in a Miami courtroom on Feb. 7 to respond to charges of aggravated stalking. After posting $2,500 bond, Santi was ordered to stay away from his alleged victim, another attorney who was not identified by name. According to court records, Santi allegedly followed his target to his place of business and his home and sent him “75 to 100 text messages” that police said included “threatening lyrics from rap songs.”
In the arrest affidavit, police said that Santi had reportedly been asked by the other attorney to stop contacting him, but Santi “refused” and kept following the other attorney back to his home. Santi was allegedly sending the other attorney messages that he was outside his home and mentioned the names of his children in his messages. The affidavit stated that the unnamed attorney and his family were “in emotional distress” from the “constant harassment.”
Santi was arrested on Feb. 6 while carrying two pizza boxes that had the alleged victim’s name and his spouse’s name on it. The affidavit stated that Santi told police he was bringing the pizza to his alleged victim’s home.
Following his arrest, Santi admitted to “intentionally” sending “75 to 100 text messages.”
WPLG, a local ABC affiliate, obtained an arrest report that stated that Santi allegedly stalked his victim at his workplace and “out of fear for his safety and that of his employees, had to close his place of business and send his employees home.”
Police did not provide a motivation for Santi’s alleged actions.
After initially being booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, Santi posted $2,500 bond on Feb. 7 and appeared to be released from custody. His next court date is March 7.
