Fox News Digital was able to obtain a video of Petito’s recognizable white Ford Transit van arriving into the parking lot at roughly 2:11 p.m. Very soon after a public argument between Laundrie and three female restaurant staff members, the pair left the Merry Piglets Tex-Mex eatery in town. Prior to Petito’s apology, a visibly agitated Laundrie left and returned to the restaurant four times, according to accounts provided to Fox News Digital last summer. Separately, the restaurant acknowledged that the pair had eaten there that day.

They sit in the car for another minute, then Laundrie gets out of the driver’s side, slamming the door before approaching the rear of the vehicle. He grabs a hat from the back compartment, then Petito steps into view from around the passenger’s side.
The two approach the store together, Petito with her arms crossed in front of herself, and Laundrie with his hands in his pockets, his face hidden under the brim of his hat and behind sunglasses.

Interior cameras from several angles show them making their way through the store for about 15 minutes. There is no audio. At one point, Petito can be seen selecting some cheese from a display near the coffee bar and placing it into a tote bag.
They leave out a different doorway from the one they arrived in.
They cut through the parking lot back to the van, where they sit for another 20 minutes before pulling out onto Highway 89 – the road leading to the Bridger-Teton National Forest campsite where Petito’s remains would be found 30-miles north roughly three weeks later.

Dr. Brent Blue, the Teton County Coroner at the time, determined that Petito was killed by hand strangulation and established a window of death three to four weeks prior to the discovery of her remains on September 19. Her parents claim in a legal complaint from earlier this year that Laundrie killed her on the evening of August 27. Additionally, a number of experts—including Dr. Ann Wolbert Burgess, a former FBI behaviorial forensics expert, and criminal profiler John Kelly—have suggested that Laundrie’s fury was finally aroused by the restaurant altercation, which resulted in Petito’s demise.
After Petito was reported missing on September 11, Jackson police notified Fox News Digital on Monday that they had found the CCTV footage.
“The attempt to locate was the first thing we’d ever heard about Gabby Petito,” Jackson Police Lt. Russ Ruschill said. Investigators then poured through hours of video in an effort to retrace her steps.

By September 1 without her, Laundrie had already delivered Petito’s car to his parents’ house in North Port, Florida. On September 11, when Petito’s parents called the police to report her missing, he left with his family, hung out for a few days, and kept quiet. Days later, while driving his mother’s Ford Mustang ten minutes away to the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park, he took off with a rifle.
On October 20, 2021, investigators discovered Laundrie’s bones in a nearby swampy environmental park. The FBI said that Laundrie confessed to killing Petito in writing in a drybag that was also discovered there.
“I ended her life,” reads the handwritten note, first obtained by Fox News Digital. “I thought it was merciful, that it is what she wanted, but I see now all the mistakes I made. I panicked. I was in shock.”

By claiming that she hurt herself in a fall close to the campsite, he presented it as a case of mercy killing. He added, “I knew I couldn’t go on without her from the minute I decided, took away her agony.
On the morning when Laundrie’s remains were found, Fox News Digital followed his parents to the park. They went into the marsh in search of the location where they thought their son had vanished weeks earlier after meeting a North Port cop and an FBI agent. Up until that point, extensive searches had been hampered by flooding.
Christopher Laundrie found the drybag by accident, and the detectives found Laundrie’s skeletal remains close by. Later, according to the FBI, he had self-inflicted gunshot wounds. A revolver had also been found at the scene.

Even though the neighborhood police had put him under observation, he drove his mother’s Ford Mustang to the park on September 13 and had the gun with him.
