Driver Repeatedly Targets Jogger with Car After Morning Greeting, Forcing Her to Hide Behind Trash Can, Police Report

Authorities in Georgia have arrested a man accused of attempting to run over a woman three times as she jogged through an apartment complex. The unsettling incident unfolded after the woman greeted him with a simple “good morning.”

The suspect, Jesse Allen Davis, aged 21, is facing charges of aggravated assault and hit-and-run. According to Sgt. Eric Smith of Cobb County Police, this dangerous encounter occurred at the Sedgefield Apartments in Marietta on a Sunday morning.

The morning began innocuously enough for the victim, who was out for her usual jog. Upon crossing paths with Davis—a stranger to her—she greeted him courteously and continued her exercise routine. Without warning, Davis allegedly jumped into his vehicle and followed her.

In a shocking turn of events, Davis reportedly tried to strike the jogger with his car on three different occasions on July 19. As the alarming situation unfolded, local ABC affiliate WSB revealed that the victim managed to stay on the phone with police throughout the ordeal.

Dispatchers asked if she was in a safe place.

“Yes, I’m behind a garbage can,” she replied.

Davis allegedly kept driving and hit another car on his way out of the parking lot. Smith said police received another 911 call not long after about the same car crashing into a pole nearby.

The suspect’s mugshot shows several cuts to his face. Cops arrested Davis and took him to the Cobb County Jail without bond. His next court date is not listed.

Neighbor Lloydethan White told WSB that he saw the incident go down — and that Davis nearly hit his vehicle as well.

“I think it’s wrong that a woman has to fear for her life and she’s just trying to go about her normal day and workout,” White said.
