Last week, Texas police arrested three people for blowing fentanyl in a 19-day-old baby’s face to stop her cries.

On January 25, police stopped a car containing the newborn, Robert Lee Mason, Jr., Jennifer Trevino, Aracely Daniella Rocha, and a fourth person outside a Frontier Inn & Suites in Abilene where they were all staying. It was during the traffic stop that officers discovered fentanyl in the vehicle — including in the baby’s diaper bag, according to KVII.

A cloud of smoke reportedly emitted from the hotel room, leading police to put on breathing masks before entering.

An investigation reportedly uncovered that Mason, Trevino, and Rocha had been smoking in the hotel room and they intentionally blew fentanyl into the 19-day-old girl’s face to quell her cries. Detectives said this had been done for several days, KTAB.

Child Protective Services took custody of all children involved amid last week’s investigation.

Mason, Trevino, and Rocha are charged with second-degree child endangerment. They remain jailed on bonds exceeding $100,000.
