ALACHUA, Fla. – Florida Department of Law Enforcement has confirmed in an email to Alachua Chronicle that the agency is investigating “allegations of sexual misconduct” at Santa Fe High School (SFHS).
The information so far has been sparse, beginning with a request from Thompson’s Sod on March 7 to remove its advertising from school property due to “an open, active criminal investigation into numerous individuals, including employees and affiliates of Santa Fe High School, for a multitude of felonious acts; concerningly, the Thompsons have discovered that most of the crimes being investigated by FDLE are crimes against children.”
When asked about the investigation, Alachua County Public Schools (ACPS) Public Information Officer Jackie Johnson told Alachua Chronicle, “We don’t have any information we can share.”
On March 18, Santa Fe High School Head Baseball Coach Travis Yeckring, who is also a Media Specialist at the school, was placed on administrative leave. ACPS confirmed that but added no information; investigations into district employees are typically confidential until an investigation report is released.
On March 19, Santa Fe High School Principal Dr. Timothy Wright sent a letter to families that said, “As I’m sure most of you already know, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement was on the Santa Fe High campus yesterday as part of an ongoing investigation. Although I can’t share any additional information, I can assure you that the school and the District are cooperating fully with the investigation.” The letter added that Yeckring had “been placed on administrative leave by the district while it conducts a separate investigation.”
A March 21 meeting was scheduled for parents of baseball players but was later canceled.
FLDE officers were reportedly on the SFHS campus again today.
