In a tragic turn of events, a Florida man is facing charges of premeditated murder following the fatal shooting of his father-in-law late Tuesday night. The accused, 42-year-old Shaun Simon, allegedly shot Bill Toth, his elderly father-in-law, in the family’s kitchen, as tensions at home reached a boiling point.

In recent months, the household had been under strain, with Toth’s wife, Carol, and daughter, Jennifer Simon, reporting to investigators that Toth had been exhibiting signs of dementia. According to WOFL, these health issues had added to the mounting stress within the family, which investigators believe may have contributed to the tragic incident.

On the night of the incident, a police report indicates that an argument erupted, during which Toth allegedly “slapped” his wife. This incident appeared to be the tipping point for Shaun Simon. Shortly after the altercation, a loud bang was heard, and both Carol and Jennifer discovered Toth gravely wounded on the floor.

Emergency services rushed Toth to the hospital, but despite their efforts, he succumbed to his injuries a few hours later. The tragic loss has left the family in shock, as they grapple with the consequences of a heated domestic dispute that spiraled out of control. Further insights were shared by Law&Crime, which reported that investigators are piecing together the events leading up to the shooting, as they try to understand the dynamics that led to this devastating outcome.

On Tuesday night, the police report said, Toth “slapped” his wife, which apparently upset Shaun Simon. Shortly afterward, Jennifer Simon and Carol Toth heard a “loud “bang” and found Toth bleeding on the floor.

Deputies said that Toth confessed to the killing, saying the elder man had made his “life miserable” and describing him as a narcissist. He said he “made the decision to shoot Bill Toth” upon hearing that he had slapped his wife. He retrieved his gun from beneath a dog ramp where he had it concealed and shot him.

Simon was ordered held without bond and ordered to have no contact with his mother-in-law, although he is allowed to have contact with his wife.
