GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A Gainesville resident, 78-year-old Katie Graham Wilson, found herself in police custody on charges of allegedly threatening a family member with a knife during a heated altercation.
Just before 10 p.m. on June 12, a Gainesville Police officer was dispatched to Pine Grove Apartments, located at 1901 NE 2nd Street, following a report of a domestic disturbance. Notably, this was the officer’s second visit to the same address that evening, as he had been called there only minutes earlier.
According to the victim’s account, the argument with Wilson escalated when she reportedly grabbed a butcher knife from the kitchen and brandished it in the living room. The victim expressed fear for his safety, noting that although frequent disagreements occurred, they had never reached such a threatening level before.
After being read her Miranda rights, Wilson allegedly confessed to wielding the knife, acknowledging her frustration over what she described as ongoing disrespect from the victim. However, she insisted she had not directly threatened the victim, asserting that he was aware she had no intention of causing harm.
After the officer placed Wilson in handcuffs, she reportedly said that the victim also had a knife, but he pulled it after she already had a knife in her hand.
Wilson has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. She has two misdemeanor convictions (both violent); she was arrested in 2024 for cutting a neighbor with a knife in the elevator of her apartment building, but that charge was later dropped. Judge David Kreider ordered her held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s Office to hold her without bail until trial; if the judge denies the motion, bail will be set at that hearing.
