Staff Report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – In a disturbing incident that unfolded on February 13, Tobreis Corney Fields, aged 37, finds himself in custody following allegations of violently assaulting a woman, resulting in a broken arm.

According to the Gainesville Police Department, the confrontation began around 1 p.m. when Fields and the woman engaged in a heated argument. During the altercation, the woman reportedly pushed Fields, inadvertently striking his lip. This lip had previously undergone surgery due to a dog bite. As the situation escalated, Fields allegedly shoved the woman to the ground. While she attempted to get back on her feet, Fields is said to have stomped on her forearm. Medical professionals later indicated her arm was likely fractured, and she was advised to seek further treatment from an orthopedic surgeon. At the time of the police report, the woman was wearing a soft cast and had shown officers a text from Fields, apologizing for the injury.

Upon being read his Miranda rights, Fields largely agreed with the victim’s recounting of events. He explained that the accidental reopening of his lip injury had caused him significant pain, sparking his anger. He admitted to trying to keep the woman on the floor during the scuffle, which culminated in her arm being broken.

Fields is now facing charges of aggravated domestic battery. His criminal history is extensive; he has been convicted of 13 felonies, four of which were violent, and 16 misdemeanors, with eight being violent as well. Furthermore, Fields has served four sentences in state prison, his latest release occurring in 2024. A previous complaint against him for domestic battery and property damage was filed in November 2025, although those charges were eventually dropped. In light of his past and the severity of the current charges, Judge Tatum Davis has set Fields’ bail at $500,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
