GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A 23-year-old woman, identified as Cortaisa Tranea Johnson, faces arrest following accusations of stabbing her boyfriend with a kitchen knife.
The incident unfolded around 11:30 a.m. on July 5, prompting an officer from the Gainesville Police Department to visit UF Health Shands Hospital. According to the victim’s statement, he was asleep at Johnson’s Oak Glades Apartments residence when she began an argument, expressing hatred, crying, and kicking him in the head. As he tried to leave, she allegedly armed herself with a kitchen knife, swinging it at him and ultimately causing a stab wound on his arm while he attempted to defend himself.
The officer noted that the victim sustained a small puncture wound on his bicep along with a minor cut on his forearm.
Later that day, the officer located Johnson at her home, where she reportedly confessed to the stabbing after being read her Miranda rights. Johnson stated it was not her intention to inflict harm. She alleged the victim had cornered her in the kitchen, and she acted in self-defense while trying to escape his physical assaults, which included punching, pushing, and slapping her both indoors and outdoors. Johnson directed the officer to the location of the “steak” knife.
The officer reported that Johnson did not have any visible injuries to support her account of the incident.
Johnson has been charged with domestic aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. She has no criminal history, and Judge Meshon Rawls set bail at $10,000.
