Idaho College Murders: Cops Looking for ‘Occupant(s)’ of Hyundai Elantra Seen Near Murder House at Time of the Killings

Police announced Wednesday afternoon they were “interested in speaking with the occupant(s)” of a white Hyundai Elantra that was reported in the area of Moscow, Idaho, around the time four college students were brutally murdered in their rental home just off campus.

“Investigators believe the occupant(s) of this vehicle may have critical information to share regarding this case,” the Moscow Police Department said in a release posted to Facebook.

They asked anyone who owns or knows of someone who owns a white Elantra — a 2011-2013 model — to send that information to the tip line at 208-883-7180, email to tipline@ci.moscow.id.us, or upload digital media at fbi.gov/moscowidaho.

Police again stressed that they have not identified a suspect in the November 13 murders of Madison Mogen, 21; Kaylee Goncalves, 21; Ethan Chapin. 20; and Xana Kernodle, 20.

The Moscow Police Department’s six investigators have been augmented by nearly 50 FBI agents and a dozen investigators and forensics experts from the Idaho State Police, CBS News reports. But that’s not satisfying many on the periphery of the investigation, including at least one family.

Steve Goncalves, father of Kaylee Goncalves, says the police have made too many mistakes and should be more transparent, as CrimeOnline previously reported. He also said he’s worried that the investigation will be allowed to go cold, something Police Chief James Fry said he’s not going to let happen.

“This case is not going cold,” the chief said. “We have tips coming in. We have investigators out every day interviewing people. We’re still reviewing evidence. We’re still looking at all aspects of this.

“And I said early on that no stone will go unturned. And I mean that. We are going to continue. This case is not going cold.”
