The mother of a 5-year-old Nevada girl who died in April was charged with child abuse on Monday.

Andrea Loving allegedly told police that she and her husband, Nicholas Loving, 35, discussed burying their daughter, Izabella Loving, in the backyard and fleeing the state. The Reno Gazette Journal reported that Izabella Loving had visible injuries on her face, pelvis, hips, and genitals — though Washoe County coroners have not confirmed her cause of death.

Nicholas Loving was arrested days after his daughter was found dead on a mattress on the floor at their Cold Springs home, as CrimeOnline reported. He allegedly provided officers with varying stories about what happened to the 5-year-old. He reportedly stated that the girl was sick and coughing up blood and mucus for nine to 10 days. The family claimed they were waiting for the 12-day mark to take her to the doctor.

Nicholas and Andrea Loving also said their daughter was hit in the head with a bat, but they could not explain her other injuries.  Nicholas Loving also claimed the girl fell out of a truck, according to the Reno Gazette Journal.

Andrea Loving allegedly also admitted to witnessing her husband kick their daughter in the genitals and drag her by the hood or collar of her sweatshirt. Five days before their daughter’s death, Andrea Loving reportedly overheard her husband screaming and a thud consistent with a child being thrown.

The Lovings reportedly said they waited hours to get help after finding their daughter dead because Child Protective Services was recently involved with the family. The nature of the agency’s involvement is unclear.

Andrea and Nicholas Loving are charged with child abuse resulting in substantial bodily harm. Nicholas Loving remains jailed on $10 million bail.
