The search continues for an 11-year-old boy from New York who has been missing since September, leaving authorities and the community deeply concerned.
According to police sources speaking to WPIX, Jacob Prichett’s mother is currently detained at Rikers Island. She faces a warrant from Brooklyn family court for failing to present her son, Jacob. This development adds a layer of complexity to the ongoing investigation.
In a bid to locate Jacob, both the NYPD and state police extended their search to a landfill near Rochester. Unfortunately, this effort did not yield any results, as no remains were discovered. The continuation of the search in this area remains uncertain. However, reports suggest that trash originating from Brooklyn might also be transported to High Acres Landfill in Perinton, which may be considered for further investigation.
The situation began unfolding on September 25, when the Administration for Children’s Services conducted a welfare check at Jacob’s Brooklyn residence. Despite their efforts, caseworkers did not find any trace of the boy. Complicating matters, his mother allegedly declined to provide a birth certificate.
Authorities returned with NYPD officers on October 1 for a follow-up visit to the apartment. Once again, they found no signs of Jacob being there, heightening the urgency and mystery surrounding his disappearance.
It was during that search that a K-9 cadaver dog reportedly detected human blood on a refrigerator in the apartment, which did not have electricity. The 50-year-old woman, who initially denied being the missing boy’s mother, was taken into custody.
According to reports, neighbors said they last saw Prichett — who is autistic and nonverbal — weeks before the welfare check. They also claimed they overheard Preichett’s mother yelling at him before his disappearance.
Prichett’s mother, who has not been publicly named, was initially hospitalized as an emotionally disturbed person.
