An Indiana woman allegedly crossed the center line before striking and killing a man who was using an electric wheelchair, authorities said.
Kandice Baker, 45, faces charges of causing death while operating a vehicle while intoxicated and possessing between 5 and 10 grams of methamphetamine, according to Allen County court records reviewed by Law&Crime.
Investigators say the victim was 63-year-old David James Keen, whose death was identified by the Allen County Coroner’s Office. Local CBS affiliate WANE reported that Keen was killed in the Fort Wayne collision.

Officers described Baker as hyperactive after the crash, according to local CBS affiliate WKRC. She allegedly told authorities she had smoked marijuana roughly two hours before the collision. Investigators also reportedly recovered a small plastic bag containing about seven grams of methamphetamine.
Police said excessive speed does not appear to have been a factor in the crash. Baker was taken into custody and booked at the Allen County Jail, where she was expected to complete a drug-recognition evaluation.
She is scheduled to appear in Allen County Superior Court on Sept. 21.
