GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A man identified as Luis R. Gonzalez, 55, found himself in handcuffs yesterday following allegations of inappropriate conduct involving public indecency in a bustling commercial district.
Around 3:55 p.m. on July 23, a report prompted a Gainesville Police Department officer to head to the 3400 block of SW Williston Road. A 15-year-old witness claimed Gonzalez had brazenly exposed himself and engaged in masturbatory behavior on a public sidewalk. This incident unfolded between two busy parking lots frequented by shoppers and pedestrians, making it visible to both foot and vehicular traffic.
After being read his rights, Gonzalez reportedly denied the accusations of public lewdness. He admitted to having his hand inside his pants but maintained that he was merely scratching, insisting that his genitals were never exposed.
Gonzalez, who resides at GRACE Marketplace, now faces charges of lewd and lascivious exhibition. His criminal record includes two felony offenses (non-violent in nature) and 28 misdemeanors (with one marked as violent). Recently, on July 1, he was convicted of trespassing after being warned, and an arrest followed him on July 17 for resisting law enforcement without violence before being released from custody the next day. Additionally, he must appear in court soon for another alleged trespassing incident.
Judge Susan Miller-Jones ordered him held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s Office to hold him without bail until trial; if the judge denies the motion, bail will be set at that hearing.
