During Thursday’s segment on CNN’s “News Night,” political commentator Van Jones did not hold back his critique of President Donald Trump’s performance at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Jones bluntly described Trump’s speech as “mean and small,” emphasizing that it lacked humor.
Expressing his thoughts, Jones said, “The worst part is that it simply wasn’t funny. You can deliver a mean and small speech and still be humorous, but this wasn’t the case. Trump centered the entire talk on himself and his adversaries, overlooking ordinary Americans who face real challenges. People struggling with gas prices or worrying about family serving overseas need someone to reflect their realities. This was a missed chance to connect with such audiences.” As Jones painted the scene, he noted the stark contrast between Trump’s persona on stage and his online image, remarking, “He began much like a gentle Care Bear, but quickly morphed into what felt like a grizzly bear, aimlessly attacking targets before leaving the stage.”
Jones further commented, “Given my observations over the past decade, it’s tough to still feel let down. Yet, I find myself, much like Lucy with the football, once more facing disappointment.”
