An Arizona man finds himself behind bars following allegations of robbing a Shake Shack and shockingly returning just days later to resume work.
According to a complaint from the Maricopa County Deputy Attorney, Keondre Simmons, 33, faces charges of aggravated assault, kidnapping, and armed robbery. Currently, it remains uncertain if he has entered a plea.
The complaint details an incident on August 3, where Simmons allegedly held two employees of the Shake Shack at gunpoint inside the premises.
Phoenix police reported that Simmons coerced the on-duty manager to unlock the safe, from which he stole $2,800. As per court documents reviewed by AZ Family, the two employees later recognized Simmons as the gunman, identifying him by his build, hairline, voice, and mannerisms.
The employees recounted that Simmons had intimate knowledge of the store’s interior, including how to access the latch inside the cooler where he confined them, according to the outlet. Although unharmed, the employees were led to an office where Simmons allegedly destroyed their personal cell phones along with the office phone.
Simmons was arrested and booked into jail Aug. 5, according to the Phoenix Police Department’s Aug. 12 statement to Oxygen.
Earlier that day, investigators witnessed Simmons leave his apartment and drive to the Shake Shack location, per court records reviewed by ABC15 Arizona. Simmons was also wearing his Shake Shack uniform at his first court appearance.
A rep for Shake Shack spoke out about the incident, noting they’re taking it “very seriously” and confirmed Simmons’ employment was terminated.
“At Shake Shack, the safety and well-being of our team members and guests are our top priorities,” the company said in an Aug. 12 statement to Oxygen. “We are fully cooperating with local authorities in their investigation and have reinforced security protocols.”
Simmons is being held on a $100,000 bond, per AZ Family. Attempts to reach an attorney for Simmons by Oxygen were not immediately successful.
