A mother has been taken into custody after allegedly tattooing her toddler. Authorities report she claimed the young child “wanted” the tattoo.

Brook Ann McDaniel faces charges of fourth-degree assault and child abuse, both misdemeanors. She was subsequently held at the Adair County Jail in Kentucky, as confirmed by jail records accessed by Oxygen.

Details regarding McDaniel’s plea status remain unclear at this time.

According to a uniform citation obtained by Oxygen, Kentucky State Police responded to McDaniel’s residence in Columbia on May 4 following reports that she had given her 22-month-old child a tattoo.

In the police citation, officers noted that when they questioned the 27-year-old mother about whether her child had received a tattoo, she allegedly confirmed the act.

McDaniel told investigators that she was inking her leg when the child walked up to her, per the citation, and stuck his arm “in the way of her tattoo gun.”

Police observed a black tattoo dot on the child’s right forearm with red in the surrounding area, per the citation.

Several witnesses told police that McDaniel had stated that she gave the child a “party dot” tattoo, according to the citation, “and that he wanted” the design.

Observing the family’s “deplorable” living conditions, the officer contacted the Kentucky Department for Community Based Services to assess the home, according to the report.

McDaniel was arrested and transported to Adair County Jail, where she’s currently being held on a $5,000 cash bond, reported WKYT

Oxygen could not locate an attorney for McDaniel. It is unclear whether a court date has been set.
