A heated confrontation at a Costco gas station turned dangerously violent, involving an alleged assault with an ax.

Valeria Andrea Aguilar has been taken into custody on charges of felony burglary with assault or battery following a dispute that erupted at a Miami Costco gas pump. Court documents obtained by Oxygen reveal that the 29-year-old has entered a plea of not guilty to the charges.

The incident, which occurred on March 25, began when Aguilar reportedly started yelling at a gas station attendant. A bystander, who was refueling her vehicle at the time, intervened by suggesting the attendant revoke Aguilar’s Costco membership. This prompted Aguilar to chase after the bystander’s car.

According to the arrest affidavit, Aguilar pursued the woman to a nearby intersection. There, she allegedly approached the woman’s open driver’s side window, striking her on the head. The affidavit further states that Aguilar grabbed the woman’s clothing, scratching her face, arms, and chest, resulting in lacerations and bruises.

In response to the attack, the victim reportedly wielded an ax multitool to fend off Aguilar before making her escape in the vehicle.

Aguilar was transported to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital and promptly arrested after she was discharged. The alleged victim’s health status or whereabouts are not stated in the court documents.

While Aguilar told police in the affidavit that she ran after the victim and approached her first, she denied intentionally striking her.

Aguilar appeared in court on March 26, where a judge denied bond, according to a recorded hearing published by NBC 6. If Aguilar is released, said the judge, she must stay away from her alleged victim—and Costco.

It is unclear from legal records when Aguilar will next appear in court. An attorney for Aguilar declined to comment when asked by Oxygen.
