In a startling episode caught on camera, a woman from Washington has been charged with a dangerous attempt to pursue a child on a bicycle by driving onto a sidewalk. This alarming scene unfolded in a suburban area and was documented in a video that has since been widely circulated.
The footage, which was shared by the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, captures a silver Ford Focus navigating a residential street around 6:05 p.m. on April 28. Throughout the video, the car’s horn blares incessantly, drawing attention to the unfolding drama.
In the background, the voice of a woman who is filming the incident can be heard expressing disbelief, saying, “What in the hell? This lady’s crazy.” Her bewilderment mirrors the shock of viewers as the situation escalates.
Suddenly, the vehicle veers into a driveway just as a young boy pedals down the sidewalk on his bike. In a harrowing maneuver, the car mounts the sidewalk, speeding up in a worrying chase after the child. The woman recording the scene reacts with urgency and fear, exclaiming, “Oh my God!”
The video concludes with the car returning to the road and driving away, leaving onlookers rushing into the street, presumably to check on the child and assess the situation. The incident has raised serious concerns over safety and the need for accountability in such reckless behavior.
“During the incident, the suspect drove up on the sidewalk and attempted to hit a juvenile riding a bike,” the sheriff’s office alleged in the statement. “Thankfully, the juvenile was not hit or injured.”
Deputies arrived at the scene minutes later to retrieve the cell phone video and speak with the victim and witnesses.
“With probable cause established to arrest the driver of the silver sedan, later identified as 56-year-old Wendy A. Clemente,” authorities said, “deputies began searching the area.”
Wendy A. Clemente is Accused of Trying to Break Into Nearby Home
Less than an hour later, around 6:30 p.m., deputies received a report from a homeowner that a woman was driving to break into his home on W. Melville Road about a mile away. Although the man was not home, he spotted the woman on his security system trying door handles, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies arrived at the home and found Clemente still parked in the victim’s driveway.
She allegedly told deputies that she had taken her dog for a ride and was “looking for other dogs to socialize with” when she spotted some dogs in the home owner’s fenced yard and decided to stop, according to the statement.
Clemente allegedly told the deputies that she didn’t know the home owner, but denied trying to enter his house.
“Despite indicators that Clemente was impaired, she denied drinking alcohol or consuming any drugs, but later changed her story and admitted to drinking alcohol,” the sheriff’s office said. “Deputies advised her that she was under arrest for DUI.”
While deputies were trying to place her into the patrol car, the sheriff’s office said she “tried to kick a deputy” but was eventually restrained in the back seat.
Authorities obtained a search warrant to collect her blood as part of their investigation.
Clemente is now facing charges of first-degree attempted assault, DUI and first-degree criminal trespass.
She appeared in court on April 29 and was released on her own recognizance. It’s unclear whether she has retained an attorney.
