A former lover has been accused of a shocking attack, allegedly breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s residence and assaulting her son while he was asleep.
Robert Schreiber faces multiple charges, including second-degree attempted murder, burglary, assault, weapon possession, child endangerment, and harassment, as detailed in a press release issued on May 1 by the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office in New York.
“This was a brutal assault on a young man in his own home,” stated District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney. “Domestic violence often doesn’t stop with a relationship’s end; it can intensify. We are committed to prosecuting this case vigorously to secure justice for the victim and his family.”
The incident reportedly occurred a day after Schreiber’s girlfriend ended their relationship, barring him from their Patchogue home. According to the release, on April 18, Schreiber allegedly gained entry through an unlocked window.
Once inside, while the household was asleep, Schreiber allegedly proceeded to the 22-year-old son’s room, forced his way in, and stabbed him seven times in the head, neck, and shoulder. Family members intervened and contacted emergency services. The unidentified victim managed to flee downstairs and was later transported to NYU Langone Hospital, where he received multiple staples for his injuries.
When police arrested Schreiber, they found a knife in his possession, according to the press release.
The 42-year-old is being held in the Suffolk County Jail on a $1,000,000 bond, according to the press release.
An attorney for Schrieber did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Oxygen. His next court date is May 28.
If convicted of attempted murder, Schrieber faces up to 25 years in prison, according to prosecutors.
