Authorities in Washington state have apprehended a suspect in connection with the murder of a woman who was discovered deceased in September, following her disappearance two months prior.
The Mason County Sheriff’s Office has not yet disclosed the suspect’s identity, only noting that he is a 45-year-old resident of Bremerton. He faces charges related to the murder of 27-year-old Mallory Barbour.
In Washington, the law dictates that suspects remain unnamed until formal charges are filed in court.
Mallory Barbour vanished on June 24, according to earlier reports by CrimeOnline. Her body was discovered on September 15 in a wooded area roughly 120 miles away from her residence. At the time, investigators suggested that evidence pointed to her death being the result of homicidal violence.
As reported by KING, Barbour had been living with the suspect at his home in Bremerton. When authorities searched the apartment, they discovered her personal belongings, including her purse, identification, and a ferry ticket from Seattle to Bremerton dated June 25.
The suspect told police he picked Barbour up at the ferry terminal in Bremerton and brought her back to his apartment, where they had sex. Then, he said, he dropped her off in Belfair.
When he tried to contact her the next day, he didn’t hear from her again.
Police found Barbour’s phone in the suspect’s apartment. It received calls on June 26 before it was turned off.
The suspect is expected in court Thursday afternoon, KCPQ said.
