Two Men Experiencing Homelessness Arrested for Indecent Exposure in Separate Incidents

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Alan Lorenzo Crittendon, 52, and Akeem Rashad Crumitie, 28, were arrested yesterday on indecent exposure charges in separate incidents near the University of Florida campus. Two people in a neighborhood close to UF told police they saw Crittendon masturbating outside their bedroom windows, while Crumitie was allegedly found naked from the waist down at a campus bus stop. Crumitie, who is a registered sexual offender, had been released from prison on August 5.

Alan Crittendon

According to the Gainesville Police Department, the incident involving Crittendon was reported at about 9:30 a.m. on August 30 in the 400 block of NW 10th Street. Two victims said a man was exposing his genitals and masturbating outside their bedroom windows. Officers later located Crittendon in the 600 block of NW 10th Street. One of the victims had recorded video of the incident and gave it to an officer.

Both victims reportedly identified Crittendon as the person they had seen outside the window.

After being read his Miranda rights, Crittendon reportedly told police he had only been changing and dusting himself off.

Crittendon, whose address is listed as St. Francis House, has been charged with two counts of indecent exposure. His full criminal history is unavailable because those documents are not posted for sexual offenses, but he has at least seven felony convictions (one violent) and one misdemeanor conviction and has served three state prison sentences; he was most recently released in 2020 after serving a 15-year sentence for robbery. He was issued a Notice to Appear in May 2026 for trespassing after he was reportedly found sleeping in a downtown parking garage, but the charge was dropped less than two weeks later. Judge Joy Danne set bail at $10,000.

Akeem Crumitie

At about 1 p.m. on August 30, a University of Florida Police Department officer responded to a report that a homeless man was naked from the waist down at the bus stop on Gale Lemerand Drive in front of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering.

The officer reported finding Crumitie without a shirt on, lying down at the bus stop with his hands near his groin area.

Post Miranda, Crumitie reportedly said he was exposing himself so he could sexually pleasure himself while he was at the bus stop.

Crumitie, a juvenile sexual offender who is registered as a transient with GRACE Marketplace as his address, has been charged with indecent exposure. His full criminal history is unavailable because those documents are not posted for sexual offenses, but he has at least five felony convictions (one violent) and seven misdemeanor convictions (non-violent, one for indecent exposure). He has served three state prison sentences, with his most recent release on August 5, 2026. Judge Joy Danne set bail at $50,000.
