A Wisconsin woman pleaded not guilty last Monday to starving her 23-year-old autistic daughter who reportedly died in January weighing 70 pounds.
Cora Laszkiewicz, 23, was found dead at a Pewaukee condo on January 4. Amy Laszkiewicz, 52, who called police reporting Cora’s death, said her daughter had problems with her eating and hygiene routines. However, she did not believe the situation was severe, according to WDJT.
Cora Laszkiewicz reportedly weighed 70 pounds and had a BMI of 11.5, which is considered underweight. Investigators said her eyes and cheeks were sunken, while the medical investigator noted that her ribs, hip bones, and sternum were protruding from her skin, according to WISN.
Amy Laszkiewicz allegedly told authorities that her daughter did not want to go to school or leave home due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She also claimed that she noticed her daughter’s weight loss but believed she would “bounce back,” WISN reported.
According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, medical records indicated that Cora Laszkiewicz weighed 135 pounds in July 2016. Amy Laszkiewicz said she did not consider getting medical attention for her daughter because she did not want to upset her.

Amy Laszkiewicz is charged with recklessly subjecting an at-risk individual to abuse causing death. She is currently free on $10,000 cash bail.
