DCLM Daily Manna 17 April 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Absolute, Yet Loving!

TOPIC: Absolute, Yet Loving! (DCLM Daily Manna 17 April 2026)

KEY VERSE: Is it fit to say to a king, Thou art wicked? and to princes, Ye are ungodly? How much less to him that accepteth not the persons of princes, nor regardeth the rich more than the poor? for they all are the work of his hands – Job 34:18, 19

TEXT: Job 34:13-19 (KJV)

13 Who hath given him a charge over the earth? or who hath disposed the whole world?

14 If he set his heart upon man, if he gather unto himself his spirit and his breath;

15 All flesh shall perish together, and man shall turn again unto dust.

16 If now thou hast understanding, hear this: hearken to the voice of my words.

17 Shall even he that hateth right govern? and wilt thou condemn him that is most just?

18 Is it fit to say to a king, Thou art wicked? and to princes, Ye are ungodly?

19 How much less to him that accepteth not the persons of princes, nor regardeth the rich more than the poor? for they all are the work of his hands.

DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:

Monarchs are known to exercise absolute power. Their authority is considered final and unquestionable. This concept of imperial power tends to make some monarchs and leaders authoritarian and domineering. They become autocratic, dictatorial, oppressive, and intolerant of opposition. To them, love and empathy towards their subjects are strange bedfellows. And just like English historian Lord Acton said, they allow the absolute power they wield to corrupt them.

This tyrannical stance is entirely unlike the Almighty God, the true and only Potentate who has and controls all power and authority. Though He is absolute in power and authority, He is yet loving. Elihu asserts God’s justice and sovereignty in today’s passage. He states that God is impartial in His dealings with men. He sees all, and no one can condemn or challenge His actions. He is just and cannot make wrong or perverted judgments. His actions are guided by love, wisdom and righteousness. Elihu’s message encourages humility and submission to God’s will, even in the face of suffering or apparent injustice.

As we consider God’s absolute power and authority, we must understand that He is unlike human absolutes. He is not detached or harsh in exercising His power towards His creation. Rather, whatever He does is with a deep commitment to them. His rule and actions are rooted in love and care for His people. His power and love go hand in hand. It is applied with compassion and desire for our well-being.

Understanding God’s sovereignty in His dealings with us as His children is crucial to maintaining a healthy relationship with Him. It helps us have a proper perspective on challenges that God allows in our lives. Sometimes, like Job, we may experience bitter and adverse circumstances. If God allows such to come our way, it is not because He hates us and wants to be harsh and brutal towards us. His actions are always for our good. Therefore, we must not question, resist or fight His rule over our lives. Instead, we must count ourselves fortunate to be under the care and protection of the loving Creator, who has our best interests at heart and orders everything that comes our way, whether good or bad, for our ultimate good and blessings.
