DCLM Daily Manna 18 November 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Ever Ready
TOPIC: Ever Ready (DCLM Daily Manna 18 November 2025)
KEY VERSE: “And it came to pass from that time forth, that the half of my servants wrought in the work, and the other half of them held both the spears, the shields, and the bows, and the habergeons; and the rulers were behind all the house of Judah” (Nehemiah 4:16).
TEXT: Nehemiah 4:13-20 (KJV)
13 Therefore set I in the lower places behind the wall, and on the higher places, I even set the people after their families with their swords, their spears, and their bows.
14 And I looked, and rose up, and said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, Be not ye afraid of them: remember the Lord, which is great and terrible, and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses.
15 And it came to pass, when our enemies heard that it was known unto us, and God had brought their counsel to nought, that we returned all of us to the wall, every one unto his work.
16 And it came to pass from that time forth, that the half of my servants wrought in the work, and the other half of them held both the spears, the shields, and the bows, and the habergeons; and the rulers were behind all the house of Judah.
17 They which builded on the wall, and they that bare burdens, with those that laded, every one with one of his hands wrought in the work, and with the other hand held a weapon.
18 For the builders, every one had his sword girded by his side, and so builded. And he that sounded the trumpet was by me.
19 And I said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, The work is great and large, and we are separated upon the wall, one far from another.
20 In what place therefore ye hear the sound of the trumpet, resort ye thither unto us: our God shall fight for us.
DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:
Since its establishment in 1948, Israel has maintained universal military conscription as a key component of national defence and identity. This has been a significant rite of passage for generations of young Israeli men and women, who have served alongside each other. This is because Israel is a tiny Jewish state of less than 10 million people amid so many unfriendly nations.
The nation of Israel has, from the Bible days till now, faced much opposition. After enduring 70 years of captivity in Babylon, a little reprieve came when the Jews were allowed to return to their native land, in batches, during the reign of Cyrus, Artaxerxes, and Ahasuerus. In our text, Nehemiah was specially commissioned by the mercies of God to rebuild the walls of Israel’s ruined city of Jerusalem. Soon, opposition arose from those who would stop at nothing to discourage and stop the work. Nehemiah mobilised and encouraged the people to keep up the work by arming them to resist their enemies. It was a joint effort by the nobles and the peasants, who kept faith with Nehemiah to ensure that the project was completed successfully.
We are called by God, like Nehemiah, to rebuild the broken walls of society that have been tainted by moral decay and disobedience. There is a need for believers to come together and restore the lost glory that has departed from many places in the world today. It is a spiritual battle against evil, and we must arm ourselves with righteousness and justice to combat the darkness that surrounds us. Despite the opposition from the devil and his followers, we must press on in our mission to spread the gospel to every corner of the earth. Through prayer and courage, we can overcome the detractors and continue advancing God’s kingdom, knowing that not everyone will be pleased with our progress.
We must rise and resist all the forces of evil with the weapons of our warfare. We are not despatched on a mission of mischief. We have God’s mandate, and our task is just. As soldiers of Christ, we are assured of eventual victory.
