Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger were back together again at the Academy Awards, but it wasn’t Twins that they chose to talk about on the stage.

During the Oscars ceremony, DeVito and Schwarzenegger reunited on-stage to serve as the presenters for Best Visual Effects and Best Film Editing. Before getting to revealing who won, the two Twins and Junior co-stars first addressed what they have in common. Most viewers were likely expecting this to be a lead-in to speaking about their past collaborations before Schwarzenegger mentioned how they had both served as supervillains in Batman movies. As luck would have it, Batman star Michael Keaton just happened to be in the audience, and that had DeVito and Schwarzenegger calling him out.

Zack Snyder explains why it was necessary for Batman to break his no-kill rule in the DCEU.

Arnold and I are presenting tonight, together, for very obvious reasons,” DeVito said. Schwarzenegger then added, “We both tried to kill Batman.”

“We both tried it. I was the Penguin in Batman Returns,” DeVito added, with Schwarzenegger continuing, “And I was Mr. Freeze in Batman and Robin.”

When asked how Batman had defeated him, Schwarzenegger said that the Dark Knight had exploited his “one weakness.” When DeVito questioned if that was “heat,” Schwarzenegger clarified that it was “love.” That’s a better fate than DeVito’s penguin, with the actor quipping back, “Oh. He threw me out a window.”

Schwarzenegger followed this up by calling Batman a “son of a b*tch,” adding, “I hate him. I hate him.” DeVito then told his Twins co-star that “Batman is here,” pointing to a seated Michael Keaton in the crowd. Schwarzenegger told Keaton, “You have a lot of nerve to show your face around here!” Meanwhile, DeVito quipped to the Batman star, “You’re a real beak-breaker, and I want to see you after the Governor’s Ball, pal!”

For his part, Keaton seemed to channel Bruce Wayne’s attitude. With a small smirk, Keaton gestured for DeVito and Schwarzenegger to bring it on.

Michael Keaton Suited Back Up as Batman

This follows the recent return of Michael Keaton to the role of Batman. After starring in two feature films by Tim Burton, Keaton returned for 2023’s The Flash, thanks to the movie’s exploration of the DC multiverse. Ahead of the movie’s release, there had been speculation about which other characters might appear, and it could have possibly brought back both DeVito’s Penguin and Schwarzenegger’s Mr. Freeze. Neither appeared in the film, though Schwarzenegger’s co-star, George Clooney, did make a brief appearance in the film.
