While Ryan Reynolds will be joined by many of his previous co-stars from the Deadpool movies in Deadpool & Wolverine, it doesn’t sound like Julian Dennison will be among them.

In Deadpool 2, Julian Dennison memorably played the role of Russell Collins, aka Firefist, a mutant with pyrokinetic powers who’s targeted by Cable (Josh Brolin). While speaking with CBR at South by Southwest (SXSW) to promote his new film, Y2K, Dennison was asked if he’d be returning as Firefist for Deadpool & Wolverine. The actor said he is not a part of the sequel, casting major doubt on his return.

‘They Didn’t Have the Budget’: X-Men Franchise Star Rejected Deadpool & Wolverine Return

One actor from Fox’s X-Men movie series declined an offer to return for Deadpool & Wolverine.

When asked if he would return for the new film, Dennison said, “Unfortunately, you won’t [see me in it]. But, I’m super excited for people to see it. I’m going to be buying a ticket to go watch it… Hey, it is what it is, what can you do?

Other Deadpool 2 Stars Have Dismissed Deadpool & Wolverine Cameos

This follows some of Dennison’s co-stars from Deadpool 2 also suggesting that they won’t be a part of Deadpool & Wolverine. Josh Brolin recently suggested that he wouldn’t be back as Cable for the film, joking to Collider in February that it was because “Ryan [Reynolds] doesn’t like” him. In 2023, Domino actress Zazie Beetz also bluntly told Decider, “I’m actually not in Deadpool 3.”

Of course, an actor’s denial is not necessarily a complete confirmation that the cameo won’t happen. It’s always possible that these actors are playing coy as an attempt to avoid divulging spoilers. Andrew Garfield spending months insisting in interviews that he wasn’t in Spider-Man: No Way Home is something that will always have Marvel fans questioning until a particular film is released which actors may actually appear.

In any case, there are a handful of Deadpool franchise stars who are confirmed to appear in the sequel. These names include Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), Rob Delaney (Peter), Karan Soni (Dopinder), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead), Shioli Katsuna (Yukio), Leslie Uggams (Blind Al), Lewis Tan (Shatterstar), and Stefan Kapičić (Colossus).

Shawn Levy is directing Deadpool & Wolverine. The movie stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman with the two reprising their respective roles as Deadpool and Wolverine, finally bringing to life a dream project fans have been wanting to see for years. It’s expected that there will be a wide variety of surprise cameos, with the trailer revealing at least one star from the original X-Men movies to return. The movie will also introduce Emma Corrin in a role as Cassandra Nova, serving as the villain of the sequel.

Deadpool & Wolverine is set to premiere in movie theaters on July 26, 2024.
