We are reaching the climax of the story in these two volumes as the events following the terror attack at the Foundation Day Festival give the readers almost all the answers to the questions that were introduced starting from the first volume.
As there are negative feelings toward the king, a group of terrorists decides to attack the festival when people least expect it… all but Raeliana! She knows what will happen as she read the original story of the book she got transmigrated into, but will Noah believe her? Their fake engagement is slowly but surely turning into something more real, and now she needs to trust in her fake fiancé to protect him and the people she loves. But when Noah gets hurt, all bets are off!
Telling her truth helps Raeliana and Noah confirm their feelings for each other, and now Noah won’t hesitate to destroy anyone and anything that will try to harm his dear Raeliana, and it seems quite a few people have that intention. Lady Shamal and her relationship with Beatrice, the true protagonist of the story, takes a central role in these volumes as truths are finally revealed. How did Eunha come to possess Raeliana’s body? Why is she suddenly getting sick and not even divine power can heal her? How did she die in her previous life when she was living as a Korean student? Why is Beatrice hell-bent on killing Raeliana when the two were supposed to be friends? The loose ends are finally being resolved, and there are yet more plot twists. Magic, divine power and gods are all intertwined to cause the mess that the now-Raeliana finds herself in. However, if there is something the readers have learned since the first volume is that Raeliana is not a princess waiting to be saved by a knight in shining armour. And while Noah could be considered a knight who likes to work in the shadows, Raeliana is the type of person who faces her problems head-on and won’t hesitate to take down whoever comes for her—whether with her gun or words.
Volumes 7 and 8 have the most action in the series so far as there is one danger after another coming after Raeliana. Let’s just say that if it were up to Noah, she would be safely locked away in his manor so that no one and nothing can harm her. Thankfully Raeliana knows how to fight back, and she has powerful allies who are willing to stay by her side: the king, the Pope, Justin Shamal and Sir Taylor, among others. So, when she’s accused of murdering a member of the royal family, not all hope is lost and Raeliana realises it is time to put an end to the conflict with Beatrice.
But is Beatrice the same person she read about and who was supposed to be childhood friends with Raeliana? The main character’s personality is twisted, and Beatrice might not be the real Beatrice. It’s up to Raeliana to find out who killed her in Korea and how her story has mingled with the characters in the Beatrice novel. Readers find out a few shocking truths including the use of magic that imitates the god’s power and the existence of the Author who created the novel and got his or her hands on Raeliana.
The discovery of the truth behind Raeliana is quite captivating in these volumes, but in my opinion the best part is the growth of the relationship between Noah and Raeliana. Their relationship is real now! Noah was already head-over-heels in love with Raeliana, but the truth about her past and where she came from stopped her from officially reciprocating, but now there is nothing else that can stop them from staying together, of course other than Raeliana dying if she doesn’t kill Beatrice first!
Why Raeliana Ended Up at the Duke’s Mansion is written by Milcha and illustrated by Whale. It was released as a webcomic before Yen Press published it in volume format for print and digital with David Odell’s English translation. After eight volumes and a year of release hiatus, the series is set to end with Volume 9 releasing in October 2025. The manhwa has also been adapted into an anime available for streaming on Crunchyroll.
