The first look at the Transformers: Legacy Cybertron Universe Vector Prime figure has been revealed. Recreating the ancient Autobot from a 2005 Transformers anime, Vector Prime brings the mission for the Cyber Planet Keys to toy aisles once more.

The figure is one of many toys in the Legacy: United series, which pulls familiar (and original) Transformers from across various continuities. The Transformers: Cybertron timeline has multiple representatives beyond Vector Prime, including a new toy for the series’ take on Starscream. The same goes for the Unicron Trilogy of anime as a whole, which is now over two decades old.

Vector Prime Flies Into the Transformers: Legacy Toy Line

The first look at the Transformers: Legacy Voyager Class Vector Prime reveals a toy very much inspired by his appearance in the Transformers: Cybertron anime. Seemingly an extensive retool of the Transformers: Generation 2 character Jhiaxus, whose toy was recently released in the Legacy line, Vector Prime transforms from a robot into an ancient Cybertronian spaceship. He also wields a powerful sword, which is cast in a translucent blue. Much like the original figure for the character, this version of Vector is a Voyager Class, putting him under a Leader/Ultra Class figure but above a Deluxe.

In Transformers: Cybertron (known as Transformers: Galaxy Force in Japan), Vector Prime was a Transformer from the distant past of Cybertron. An emissary of the god Primus who watched over time and space, he came to the present and aided Optimus Prime’s forces as they sought to keep Megatron from collecting the Cyber Planet Keys. Subsequent continuities established him as one of the 13 original Transformers/original Primes; he was also seen by some as an homage to The Last Autobot from the Marvel Transformers comic books. He had a Mini-Con partner named Safeguard, although the Legacy figure seems to lack this smaller Transformer.

Transformers: Legacy Has Given New Life to Unicron Trilogy Characters

The Unicron Trilogy contained Transformers: Armada, Transformers: Energon and Transformers: Cybertron, although the latter (at least for its Japanese equivalent) was initially intended to be in a separate continuity. These shows all had a specific gimmick, ranging from the diminutive Mini-Con faction to the Transformers all combining or activating special powers and weapons through their “Cyber Keys.” The anime themselves had somewhat mixed reviews, with Transformers: Energon being seen as second only to Beast Machines: Transformers in controversy. Nevertheless, Transformers: Cybertron was largely regarded as the best of the trilogy, especially as the series neared its end.

Several Unicron Trilogy characters have had new toys released in the Transformers: Legacy line that faithfully recreate their original designs and action figures for modern fans. These include Optimus Prime, Hot Shot, Starscream, Megatron and the gigantic Tidal Wave from Armada and Vector Prime, Hot Shot, Starscream and Metroplex from Cybertron. A Core Class Megatron figure is the only representative of Transformers: Energon, likely due to the series’ lack of popularity. Transformers: Armada was released in 2002, making the Unicron Trilogy as a whole over 20 years old.
