Curry Barker’s latest horror sensation, Obsession, has taken the box office by storm, pulling in millions and establishing the 26-year-old as an emerging talent in the film industry.
While Obsession is Barker’s breakthrough in mainstream horror, it’s not his first foray into the genre. He initially gained fame as half of the YouTube comedy duo, That’s A Bad Idea, with Cooper Tomlinson. Some might recognize Tomlinson as Bear’s friend, Ian, in Obsession. Together, they amassed a following of 1.17 million subscribers through hundreds of unique skits and videos on the platform.
The duo’s reunion has proven lucrative, with Obsession becoming one of the year’s top earners, raking in an impressive $75 million worldwide. The film’s plot centers around a wish gone awry when Bear, played by Michael Johnston, wishes for his friend Nikki, portrayed by Inde Navarette, to love him above all else. The seemingly innocent wish spirals into a perilous and toxic relationship, endangering their lives.
Prior to Obsession, Barker directed a short horror piece titled Milk & Serial. This 2024 found footage film, made on a modest budget of $800, arguably set the stage for Barker’s career ascent. Looking ahead, Barker will direct, co-write, and star in his next project, Anything but Ghosts, with Tomlinson joining him as co-star and co-writer. Additionally, Barker is set to write and direct A24’s upcoming reboot of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, as reported by Variety.

The official summary for the found footage horror film reads, “When a surprise birthday prank goes terribly wrong, two social media influencers must face the devastating consequences that come after.”
Barker wrote, directed, edited and scored the movie by himself. Tomlinson, who stars opposite Barker in the self-made movie, also served as a producer. Adlih Torres, Sterling L. Pope, Jonnathan Cripple, Gloria Karel, John Simmonds, Paul Santoli and Rob Harrow also star.
And that’s not all. Barker’s other short films The Chair, Warnings and Heavy Eyes are also available to stream for free.
Is Obsession streaming? Or is Obsession only in theaters?
Obsession is currently only playing in theaters. Since it is a Universal release, Obsession will likely be available to stream on the NBCUniversal streaming platform, Peacock, later this year.
It’s only a matter of time before the hit movie will begin streaming.
