Christina Ricci warned fans that season 3 of Yellowjackets might be the most gruesome one to date.

“This is the most fun and exciting season yet. It’s very smart and shocking — and people die,” she said during an interview with TV Insider on Monday, February 10.
Christina, 45, who plays adult Misty on the show, has had quite the dramatic character arc over the show’s previous two seasons. In the season 2 finale, adult Misty killed adult Natalie accidentally with a phenobarbital injection.

Though the absence of Juliette Lewis, who played adult Natalie, will certainly be felt in season 3, the show brought in another big name for an interesting role – Hilary Swank. Christina was thrilled to get to work with Hilary, 50, after admiring her work for years.

“I was really excited. I’ve always been a huge fan. She’s such a wonderful actress and her performance in Million Dollar Baby is one of my favorite performances ever,” the Wednesday actress said of working with the Oscar winner. “When she came, everyone was like, ‘Oh, do you think she’s going to be nice?’ I was like, ‘It doesn’t matter. She is a two-time Oscar winner! She doesn’t have to be nice to us.’ She happens to be really lovely. So, great bonus.”

So far, details about Hilary’s character have been kept largely under wraps. Yellowjackets cocreator Ashley Lyle did give fans something to talk about when she teased how the show’s leads might finally be exposed for what exactly happened out in the forest after the plane crash that they have been keeping under wraps.

“We are going to learn more about what happened in the wilderness that they are so afraid of coming out. We hope it will be both satisfying and at times unexpected,” she told Vanity Fair in October 2024. “And I think that we have found ourselves — let me think of how to say this. The stakes are pretty high in the present-day storyline, perhaps in a way that they did not feel in season two, and that was really exciting for us to delve into.”

“There are at least two very big questions with very clear answers,” she added.

A lot of the questions fans were left with after the season 2 finale seemed to surround Coach Ben and why he seemingly burned the cabin down along with what will happen to him since he seems like the only one who isn’t on board with cannibalism. Steven Krueger, who plays Coach Ben, reflected on why his character “didn’t partake in this first descent into cannibalism that everybody else does” in an interview with Book Of in May 2023.

“What we’re going to see kind of going forward is Coach being even more ostracized from the group because of that and just kind of how he deals with that,” he said as the show’s season 2 was airing.

“You’re going to kind of see him retreat and the effects of that are not always a positive thing,” he added. “When you don’t have other people to rely on and you just have yourself, we’re going to see him go inward and let’s just say that the repercussions can be catastrophic, I guess.”

Yellowjackets season 3 is set to premiere on Friday, February 14, on Paramount+ with Showtime.
